Norton Priory Museum & Gardens
Norton Priory Museum & Gardens is Europe's most excavated monastic site, a scheduled monument, and the medieval Undercroft is a Grade 1 listed building. Tucked away at the end of a business park, we are not visible from the road and consider ourselves one of the North West's best kept secrets. Discover 900 years of stories at our unique site which has been home to a medieval Priory, an Abbey, a Tudor house and a Georgian Mansion.

Say hello to our 14th century St. Christopher statue and explore the ruins of the medieval priory complex, before discovering the story of our past in our two exhibition galleries. You'll see the archaeological finds from the digs held at the site and take a trip through time as you walk through the Victorian porch and medieval porch.
Services
Norton Priory Museum & Gardens is managed by the Norton Priory Museum Trust Limited, a charitable trust dedicated to preserving and providing access to the ruins, gardens and collections to as wide an audience as possible. We seek to delight, educate and inspire visitors, and aim to offer the highest standards of customer care.
Here at Norton Priory we're bursting at the seams with things to see. Spanning 900 years of history, we're the most excavated monastic site in Europe. We invite you to explore the 12th century undercroft building and priory ruins then venture further into the surrounding woodland to discover secret summer houses and stream glades.
We can only accept groups of visitors up to 6 people or two households in-line with government guidance. Please note visitors will need to purchase tickets in advance, however if you haven't booked a ticket and decide you'd like to visit, please do give us a call the morning of the day you'd like to come as we may have some slots still available.
The Brooke Caf is operated by Halton Community Day Services on the behalf of Norton Priory Museum & Gardens. The service supports adults with learning disabilities, mental health, physical and sensory disabilities to learn and develop valuable employment skills in business settings. Our caf team is made up of professional caterers, support workers and those we support.
Norton Priory prides itself on strong links with the community, working with a range of community partners and audiences including older people, children's centres, church groups, primary care trusts, youth clubs and scouting/guiding groups. We offer a range of workshops on site or as outreach as well as bespoke projects.

I would love to review Norton Priory but you gave me no choice--your hours on both your Web site and your answer phone were wrong, leaving me, my husband, and my 2 cousins visiting from America stranded in the cold, rainy November air in late afternoon with no way to get home unless calling a taxi--expensive for where we needed to go.

If you are going to have different hours at different times of year, you need to NOT get them wrong on your answer phone.

It's not cool.

If you dare to visit, call ahead and make sure you speak to a real person to confirm that they are open. And while you

Norton Priory has been a home for nearly 900 years, many people have called Norton Priory home; from the canons who lived and their, to the Brooke family who lived in style and all the servants and labourers who worked their.
There is lots to see here, the award winning museum, excavated medieval ruins, the St Christopher statue, the Walled Garden and the extensive woodland and sculpture trail. It's 40 acres so take comfortable shoes otherwise you might have tender feet by the end of the day. Norton Priory has loads to do for children and it is possible to arrange school visits.

This site of the old priory has a good mixture of historical artifacts displayed inside before you explore the ruins outside. The priory is set in its own woodland which is great to explore and walk around and just a short way down the road is a beautiful walled garden which is still maintained. Worth popping into if you are in the area.

Lovely place for an afternoon out- and a pinic if the sun ever shines!!. There is good information about the Priory and wider history. The walled gardens are a short walk away from the main site and worth a visit in their own right (small admission charge)
