Since our move to new purpose built premises in 1999, there have been many changes both in how we work as a practice and also in the NHS as a whole. We have continued to grow during this time, making full use of the larger building in providing several new patient services, that were previously only available at other sites.

We are a training practice which means we are all involved in training doctors to be good GP's, and medical students in the process of becoming doctors. This also creates an environment where all are continually ready to learn and constantly looking for ways to improve our service. In recent times this has led us to change our phone system, the computer system and also aspects of our appointments.
Services
If regular treatment is required, the Doctor will authorise issues of repeat prescriptions of specified medications, usually for 4 weeks supply at a time. You will be asked to see the Doctor or Nurse at regular intervals for review of treatments. Please allow 48 hours for collection of your prescription (excluding weekends & bank holidays).
We have now activated the SMS message appointment reminder service so all appointment reminders will be sent via text message to all patients that we have mobile telephone numbers for. These can be requested by telephone, internet or in person. You may consult any doctor, not necessarily the one you are registered with.
Victoria Medical Centre has a fully qualified team of clinicians dedicated to providing Personal Medical Services to the people of Barnsley and the surrounding areas. The clinical team are fully supported by a dedicated team of administration staff, who are available to try and answer your queries.
You can register as a patient with the Practice either by completing a registration form which can be obtained from reception. We would recommend that you come into register between 12:30 and 14:00 as this is usually the quietest period for the reception staff. Please try to attend between these times where possible.
The practice supports the NHS policy of zero tolerance with regard to violence or abuse to the doctors, staff or others on the practice premises or other locations where treatment may take place. Persons abusing this policy may be reported to the police and removed from the practice list. The Practice does not discriminate on the grounds of race, gender, age, disability or sexuality.
