Practically next door to The Aqua, overlooking Portland Harbour stands one of Henry VIII's finest coastal forts, built in the early 1540s to protect against French and Spanish invasion. Today it provides a great day out for visitors.
Facing The Aqua is Castletown D-Day Centre, an authentic recreation of the busy wartime dockyard on the Isle of Portland, from which in 1944, thousands of American troops of the 5th US Corps and the US 1st infantry, embarked, bound for the heavily defended beaches of Nazi occupied France.

Portland is a great place to visit if you enjoying getting out and being active. The Island is situated at the heart of the UNESCO Jurassic Coast and it's heritage has created some breath-taking natural conditions for a range of sports. For instance the limestone crags are famous among sport climbers as some of the best in Europe.
Dorset has one of the most dramatic coastlines in England, making walking on Portland a popular pastime for locals and visitors alike. It's extensive network of footpaths on the island means it is easy to explore this unique site of geological and biological special interest and visit places of amazing contrast and rugged beauty.
A sheltered deep-water harbour and an abundance of habitats and wrecks ensure Portland continues to be a popular destination for divers of all experience. The Aqua has built it's reputation on serving divers visiting Portland. Boat charter, launching, gas, launch & diving permits, instruction, cafe, toilets, kit wash are all on the doorstep.

Only spent one night here and unfortunately the hotel had booked a birthday party (people screaming around the corridors) so not the best experience, the staff were awesome and very accommodating, just an unfortunate booking on my part, would definitely try again in the future, and a lovely little beach just beyond the car park.

Couldn't sleep, loud as there are many pub nearby. Walls are thin so you can hear things. They have breakfast self serve. They got a green parrot by the front desk. It bites a lot
Edit:
The owner has misinterpreted my cheeky review regarding the parrot. thus I apologize on my behalf, what I was trying to convey:
The parrot by the reception is adorable but be warned as it does like to bite. There is a sign saying a warning that it bites so I would not suggest letting kids near it.
