Our practice ethos is to provide high quality medical care in a friendly, patient-centred and compassionate manner. The Caythorpe & Ancaster Medical Practice is a semi-rural, training and teaching practice working from two sites, providing health care for a population of 9000 patients. We work under a General Medical Services (GMS) contract and dispense medication to the majority of our patients.

We aim to be innovative by incorporating the best of the new whilst not losing sight of the importance of the traditions of good family medicine. We embrace current evidence based medical thinking and try and apply this to the care of our patients. Our policy has always been to embrace healthcare reforms, but to interpret them in a way that we feel is meaningful and enhances the care of our patients.
Services
Like many other practices in the UK, we work to a 10 minute consultation interval. This 10 minutes includes meeting and greeting time, time for record keeping and administration e.g. Much of our work is concerned with the management of long term conditions (approximately 80+ %) which is coordinated through the use of review dates which appear on all repeat prescriptions.
You do not require a doctor's sickness certificate for any illness lasting seven days or less. For any illness lasting longer than seven days you will need to see the doctor for him/her to issue a 'Fit Note' and for any subsequent renewal of the certificate. If your employer insists on a sickness certificate for 7 days or less a charge will be levied.
The practice has access to a wide variety of tests. Simple tests such as Blood tests and ECGs are performed by Health Care Assistants (HCA) who work within the nursing team. Other tests such as X-Rays, Ultrasound scans, CT scans, MRI scans and DEXA scans are arranged through local hospitals. To obtain your test results please call reception.
Repeat prescriptions are recorded on our clinical IT system and can be re-ordered as required. We do request that we are given a minimum of two full working days notice when ordering repeat prescriptions so that medication can be safely dispensed. In accordance with NHS guidance repeat prescriptions are, in general, issued as a one month supply.
If you need regular medication for a stable long-term health condition, your GP can prescribe a maximum supply of three months. If you are taking a course of medication that will finish during your holiday, then get advice from your GP. They may be able to give you a repeat prescription. Talk to your GP about this.
