We are community focused Primary School located in Wickford (Essex), accommodating 390 pupils, aged 4-11 years. We have been rated as a 'Good' school by the Office for Standards in Education (Ofsted). To be welcoming, friendly and caring, so that pupils feel secure, safe, happy and purposefully employed. Parents to be treated as partners in education, to be courteously received, listened to, fully informed and asked to use a similar code of conduct as that employed by the school.

Today, we opened our new classrooms and were delighted that Education cabinet Member Ray Gooding could come along and cut the ribbon. It's been lovely to hear so many positive comments from parents about the new classrooms and areas. Phelan's, the contractors responsible for the build celebrated the opening by buying everyone an ice cream.
Abacus Primary School is a popular school serving residents of Wickford. The School regularly receives more applications than there are places available and children aren't always successful in gaining a place for their child, even though they reside in the priority admissions area. Essex County Council is the admission authority for all community and voluntary controlled schools in Essex.
We have tried to include as much information as possible in this prospectus; hopefully it will answer many of your questions about the school. We look forward to developing a successful home - school partnership, which will provide the best possible support for your child's education. This prospectus will give you some idea of what our school is like.
All schools in England have a Governing Body which is responsible for overseeing many of the strategic decisions of the school. A key role is to act as a 'critical friend': to support, to challenge, to ask questions, ultimately to represent the school community. The Governing Body works in close partnership with the Headteacher, staff and the Local Authority.
