Osteopathy is a primary care profession, focusing on the diagnosis, treatment, prevention and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal disorders, and the effects of these conditions on patients' general health. Using many of the diagnostic procedures applied in conventional medical assessment, osteopaths seek to restore the optimal functioning of the body, where possible without the use of drugs or surgery.
Osteopathy is based on the principle that the body has the ability to heal, and osteopathic care focuses on strengthening the musculoskeletal systems to treat existing conditions and to prevent illness. Osteopaths' patient-centred approach to health and well-being means they consider symptoms in the context of the patient's full medical history, as well as their lifestyle and personal circumstances.

I qualified in 1989, after 4 years training in London at the British College of Osteopathic Medicine. I choose osteopathy as a career after suffering from a chronic back problem as a child that continued through my adult life, after going through the hospital NHS system the only relief was with osteopathic treatment.
At the first consultation, the osteopath will compile a full case history of your symptoms, as well as asking for information about your lifestyle. The osteopath may also observe you making some simple movements to help them make a diagnosis. You will usually be asked to remove some clothing near the area of the body to be examined.
Brilliant services from Sue who treated my son for back and groin pains due to high level of sporting activities. He is in a good form now and will always recommend! Fab treatment every time, great friendly service and it has made such a difference in my posture, mobility and old injuries! Can't recommend it enough!
One of the most common reasons people consult osteopaths is back pain and therefore we believe that we are true experts in dealing with all types and severity of back pain. Back pain affects over 80% of the population at some stage of their lives and is one of the biggest causes of absence from work.
Those who suffer with sciatica say that the pain came on suddenly, like a bold of lightening. Others describe it as an excruciating "toothache" in their legs - either way sciatica is a painful experience and Newent Osteopaths will be able to help in most cases. Early Sciatic Pain is often so mild it can be ignored but this is the stage when it's vital to see your osteopath.

I have had several treatments throughout the pandemic due to recurring sciatica. The hygiene practices they have in place are very thorough and I’ve always felt very safe. As for the treatment, my osteopath is knowledgeable, listens well to my updates and provides preventative advice in a professional and supportive way. Thank you Newent Osteopaths!
