Salter and King aims to provide the link between local farmers and our appreciative customers, bringing expertise and natural wonderful meat to East Suffolk. We offer wonderful, extensively-farmed organic and free-range meat with a focus on seasonality and traditional breeds. After over a decade of trading in Suffolk we've built up really strong relationships with local farmers.
Gerard regularly visits our farms to see how the animals are reared and to observe farming practices, so that real trust can be built up between farmer, butcher and customer. And by using unusual and often long-forgotten cuts in the shop, we hope to offer an enlightened approach to butchery, making the very best of the region's terrific meat.

Services
We aim to combine the most natural, wonderful free-range and organic meat from our loyal local farmers with a progressive approach to butchery. Often this means using traditional and long-forgotten cutting and handling techniques, but it also means excellent service, interesting recipes and different or unusual cuts of meat.
With over thirty years of experience Gerard King is a third-generation butcher who started out in Hackney as a packing boy in his family shop. There he slowly learnt his butchery craft, cutting and preparing meat for a cosmopolitan and discerning mix of customers - including the local Turks, Greeks and West Indians that then populated East London - which gave him a valuable understanding of different food cultures and cooking techniques.
Currently we are serving our meat to several local restaurants, pubs and hotels. We deliver daily and are competitively priced, whilst not compromising on quality. We work with chefs to provide the cut they need and can provide some of the more unusual, hard-to-find or forgotten cuts. We are passionate about good beef. We have several local farms from which we buy our animals, including Simon Robert's Union Farm, Blythburgh, Simon Winter Darrow Farm, Denton but we have a special relationship with Natasha Mann, whose award-wining herd of Lincoln Reds is fed on the lush pastures and varied meadows that abut the River Alde at Iken.
Gerard has built up a good, long relationship with Belinda who farms our Sutton Hoo chickens. We really trust that her chickens have had a good, happy and extensively-farmed life - it's not as easy to find genuinely free-range chickens as you might think! These birds are really delicious. You can buy free-range chickens in our Chicken Boxes or make a bespoke order via phone or email.

Just wanted to say a big thanks to the Peasenhall shop for outstanding service. I called up requesting a next day birthday delivery for my dad to an address outside their normal coverage area. Not only did the… guys offer to drop it off themselves the next day for free (after work hours) they really sorted me out with a great selection box, advising on what’s currently best, very reasonable price and wrote a nice birthday message for the old man. Proper old-school service. You are absolute gents. Well done and thank you
