Camberwell's very own purveyor of excellent artisan breads, farm-made cheeses, organic wines and a whole host of other lovely things to eat and drink. We work with small-scale producers to bring you some of the finest and most interesting foods available anywhere. From local jams and preserves to the best British cheeses, from fantastic charcuterie to excellent wines (all organic), our shop is a treasure trove of truly artisanal produce.
And that's not just some vague marketing term - we know many of the producers we stock personally, and you can be sure that everything we sell has been made using traditional, non-industrial methods, with the utmost respect for raw ingredients and a real mastery of the process. And our bread, of course, is made fresh on the premises, by us, every day.

The Hill Bakery was founded by Adam Newey in 2013. After nearly 20 years as a journalist (working at the New Statesman, Independent on Sunday and the Telegraph, and as a poetry critic for the Guardian), he started to bake bread at home to sell to his neighbours in Telegraph Hill (hence the name of the business) and at Deptford market.
All our loaves are made fresh, by us, every day. Whether it's a European-style dark rye, a crusty baguette, our best-selling five-seed sour or our trademark London levain, all are made the old-fashioned way, in other words without chemical additives, preservatives or artificial flavourings of any kind.

Great bread and incredible pastries. But tragically let down by being baked in too few quantities and reduced opening hours! Please get someone else in the bakery to help make more and on sundays and Mondays Tuesdays too!
Updated: having seen response from Hill Street - good reminder there's often more going on than you know about. Very sorry to hear and all the best. Thank you for all the lovely baked goods!

All the breads are delicious and clearly made with love. The shop is well stocked with other tasty deli treats, good for gifts or just to spoil yourself. Customer service is excellent. This is one of the best bakers in London and Camberwell is so lucky to have it. My personal favourites are the five seeded sourdough and the brilliant pain au chocolat they make. Though, it’s fun to try something different as well and never a disappointment.
Do check the opening hours and get there early to avoid missing out!

Great little bakery, offering high quality bread and french-style pastries (until they run out, usually too early) and a few other products such as wine and some preserves. On the expensive side, but as the owner says in the comments here this is pretty much a one-man shop (helped by a nice lady at the cashier).

We absolutely love this place and have been going since it opened (sorry its taken so long to review...). The bread is always fantastic and freshly baked each day, the array of quality products is a welcome addition to the area and the sandwiches are always spot on. Always lovely to have a quick chat with Adam too... Cheers, keep up the great work!

Adam is a wizard of wheat. His bread is quite simply the best I've tasted - incredibly consistent quality from the alchemical combination of flour, water, physical effort and patience. Hill bakery is everything you want in a local business, and I'm incredibly fortunate to live just round the corner. When the shop is closed for holidays, we basically don't eat bread - I don't buy it from anywhere else. The only downside is that this has made me into possibly London's snobbiest bread eater... if it ain't Hill's I ain't bovvered :)
