My name is Melanie Ayers. I am an experienced, qualified, counsellor with a private practise based in Banbury Town Centre. I am an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. I offer a warm, secure and healing relationship that will support you through any changes you feel are necessary to get the very best from life.
I provide the strong, effective tools and techniques of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. These interventions have been scientifically proven to be at least as effective as taking antidepressants but without the side-effects or the need for long-term medication. I am currently offering three ways of accessing therapy; face to face, video and telephone.

I am a broad-minded, deeply analytical person with a natural talent for understanding the thoughts and motivations of people around me. For as long as I can remember I have attentively analysed "what makes people tick" and subjected myself, and my world to close scrutiny in the pursuit of self-awareness.
Counselling can give you valuable time for yourself, to reflect, take stock and get the longer view. With increasing levels of stress and seemingly unending demands on our time and attention it can be all too easy to loose sight of, and neglect, our own needs. All too often we find ourselves carrying emotional baggage that weighs us down and spoils our living experience.
Starting counselling for the first time can feel strange so it might help to know what to expect. I can be contacted by telephone or email (details below). During our initial telephone conversation I'll ask you to outline the problem and I'll answer any questions you have. If we decide to work together we'll arrange a time to meet up.
CBT uses a rational, evidence based approach to challenge unhelpful or self-limiting beliefs. Our ideas about ourselves, other people, and the world are usually formed early in life in order to keep us safe. As adults, sometimes these beliefs can hold us back.
The cognitive element of CBT can break down these inaccurate and often contradictory beliefs and the behavioural element of CBT can speed the process and reinforce new, more helpful and realistic perspectives.CBT is informative. It teaches you the skills and techniques for you to use whenever you need them, in effect, training you to be your own therapist.
