Breakfast is included. The Blue Ball is a traditional coaching inn dating back in parts to the 13thcentury, with low ceilings, blackened beams, stone fireplaces and a timeless atmosphere of unspoilt old world charm. The Inn is set 900 feet above sea level, amidst rolling hills just on the edge of the moor.
Services
The Blue Ball Inn is located in Countisbury on the old coaching route from Porlock to Lynmouth. Countisbury is thought to mean "camp on the headland" and comes from the impressive Iron Age fort on Wind Hill, about half a mile west of the Blue Ball Inn. This is believed to have been the site of a battle where Odda's Saxon army defeated Danish invaders led by Hubba in 878.
Here at the Blue Ball we aim to provide good quality food in a relaxed atmosphere, customers can enjoy our home cooking with traditional dishes such as our famous steak and ale pie, West country fish and chips, local ruby red beef burgers and Exmoor steaks. Our bars always have a great atmosphere with their low beams and real log fires.
Here you will be asked to pick a quantity. If you would like to email us a question, head over to our "Get In Touch" page. Single occupancy of a double room at the front of the Inn with view across fields to the cliffs. En-suite bathroom with showe. Single occupancy of twin room at the back of the Inn with two single beds and en-suite shower/bathroom.
If you would like to bring your pooch, they are very welcome in all areas of the hotel but we do have some doggie rules in the bedrooms. Here you will be asked to pick a quantity. If you would like to email us a question, head over to our "Get In Touch" page. The guest will be charged 50% of their first night's stay should they cancel less than 48 hours in advance.
Exmoor is one of the smallest National Parks covering just 267 square miles and featuring nearly 1,000 kms of rights of way, perfect for walking holidays, short breaks and romantic weekend getaways. These walking and hiking trails offer unspoilt vistas and tranquility that include the serene beauty of Watersmeet and the truly dramatic landscape of the Valley of the Rocks where moorland plunges into cliffs to meet the sea.

The most accommodating place you can stay. All the people that work there are lovely, nothing is too much trouble. The food is first class, from the cooked breakfast to the steak. The pub itself is immaculately clean, as soon as anyone finishes with their table it is cleaned down straight away. The rooms have everything that you need and are topped up if you run out. The beds are amazingly comfortable and again the rooms are really clean. All dogs welcome which gives it a friendly feel. A real home from home feel, absolutely loved it!

Home after a two night stay. We had stayed there before but pre covid. Lovely place to stay and it’s dog friendly so ideal for us. Well equipped room with a good shower and bath.
Great choice of food. I am coeliac and the staff were able to recommend dishes - lots of choice. Recommend the vegan Thai curry.
Nice snug room to relax in.
Friendly and warm staff

Food and general atmosphere is always good here and fresh produce a good choice of local beers. Only downside is people on another table thought it's acceptable to allow their dogs just to wonder and one ended up in kitchen. My dogs were happy kept on lead under table. But generally lovely evening.

Stopped in after a lovely walk. Very, very dog friendly. Lovely salmon sandwiches, very good service. What a gem of a place!
Walked off the food with a little walk up to the coastline behind the church via their car park (they had thoughtfully sign posted it). Made the day that bit more special.
Thank you for looking after us!

I can't recommend this place enough. We had the vegan roast and vegan tart and both were perfection!
The place was very dog friendly and our little boy loved it. He was even given a great at the end of the night by the fantastic chef. I am gluten intolerant too and he said he makes everything gluten free so to not risk contamination and cleay takes allergies very seriously. The staff were all so friendly and accommodating and there was a good selection of drinks. We couldn't fault the place.

Had three awesome days here. Wonderful fires to warm those weary bones, great beers and ciders to choose from, fantastic food at all times of the day and the best staff. The rooms are quiet, warm and very comfortable. All the doggy residents were extremely well behaved and lovable. The only down point was that the room tv was VERY slow but I wasn't here to watch TV!

We always call here to eat, whenever we stay in exmoor, I had my favourite meal of pork belly, and it was really the best I have ever had. I would love to go back and have another, and I will, next time we are there. The Blue Ball is an excellent place, to visit and is full of atmosphere, dogs lying around, and country life.
