At Foundations First, we believe that the consultation appointment is of particular importance to ensure that both the needs of your child are clearly identified and that the service offered meets with the family's needs and expectations. It is our preference that this is the first point of contact.
To assist us all, we ask that a short online questionnaire be completed when you are booking your consultation. The consultation is the only appointment that we ask parents to attend without their child, giving the family the time and opportunity to explore any developmental issues causing concern.

Services
All therapy intervention with children is provided through play related activities, where the focus is on fun and engagement. Playing with a noisy inset tray puzzle promotes attention, receptive and expressive language skills, visual discrimination, and fine motor skills. Walking barefoot over the river stones, demonstrating tactile sensory processing, eye foot co-ordination and balance, whilst memorising verbal instructions.
At Foundations First, we believe in assessing children in a relaxed child friendly environment with parents present as valued participants in the assessment process. The assessment follows the needs of your child; it does not focus primarily on formal testing, although this may be offered as required.
Parents know their child best; their unique ways and individual abilities. It is our aim to help parents understand how their child functions, their strengths and challenges, as well as the strategies most likely to help them progress. We believe having parents present and active in their child's intervention, is part of this process of change.
When considering a referral, it is our aim to meet both your child's needs and the family expectations at this given time. It may be the case that our involvement would be more appropriate at a future date and the referral could be considered at a later stage.
Should the referral be declined, the family will be notified personally by a member of the Foundations First team, written notification will be forwarded and the consultation fee will be refunded.
