Jasmine Cottage and Rose Cottage are situated in the grounds of Hillyground Cottage, a Grade II-listed thatched cottage dating from the 15th century, in the pretty hamlet of Newton just outside the market town of Sturminster Newton. The cottages are surrounded by an acre of field and gardens, overlooking the River Stour and Newton Mill.

Sturminster Newton is a medieval market town in the heart of the Blackmore Vale in north Dorset. It is 10 minutes' walk or 3 minutes' drive from the cottages. There is a local market every Monday morning. The Exchange, our community centre, has lots of events on, as well as a cafe/bar and exhibition space.
Services
I moved to Dorset in 2006 with my partner Cath, as a result of a mid-life crisis. We quit our safe office jobs to escape to the country and the joys and perils of self-employment. We fell in love with Hillyground Cottage and its gardens the moment we saw it, thought it ideal for setting up a self-catering holiday busines, and have enjoyed sharing it with our visitors.
The single-storey cottages are converted outbuildings, re-clad in the original elm to retain their rustic character. The cottages are small but well-equipped, including electric hob and oven, fridge and freezer, microwave, kettle and toaster; TV with freeview, DVD player, radio/CD player; small library of local guidebooks, fiction and DVDs; electric heating.
Whatever time of year you come here for a holiday, there's nearly always an event happening nearby. Dorset Art Weeks, next on in 2020 (every other year): one of the largest Open Studio Events in the country, in a large range of venues throughout Dorset. Over 200 working steam engines and 100 fairground organs together with the old time steam funfair, rural crafts and heavy shire horses create a fantastic atmosphere with lots to do and see.

This is an absolute delightful place to stay, the owners are so friendly and welcoming, the cottages are so comfortable, clean and have everything anyone would need, if you needed anything it was no trouble at all to ask the owners, we enjoyed it so much we are going back again this year, and we have never in 43 years have never been inclined to revisit anywhere as much as here definitely a five star holiday.
