Richard & Susan Allen qualified from the British School of Osteopathy in 1977, and set up their practice in Shrewsbury in 1979. Henry and Amie Allen, Rowan and Richard Metliss are the next family generation of Osteopaths working at the practice and continue to refine their skills on post graduate courses and be mentored by Richard and Susan Allen.
Most of our new patients come because of recommendation by existing patients and other health care professionals. One of the reasons for this, is that we often succeed in assisting recovery when patients have exhausted their treatment options. We treat everyone, from newborns to the elderly with the gentle Cranial Osteopathic approach.
Dr. McGill a back pain researcher from Ontario Canada outlines his reasons and method for safe effective lower back strength training. Please only attempt these exercises after being told to do so by one of the Osteopaths at the practice. Every exercise needs the correct timing which is critical to avoid re injury.
Treatment in pregnancy can help with the discomfort in the back and pelvis and prepare the body for birthing by allowing the bones, muscles and connective tissue to be in as best balance as possible. Treating during pregnancy and childhood can also be viewed as a form of preventative medicine, by reducing strain and tension which then promotes balance as the child grows, off setting the chance of symptoms presenting themselves.
It will be different for everyone but you will be given an indication at your consultation. The osteopath will very gently guide the problem area towards a release of tension using various motions that are present in the system. We will be asking all patients to read about the changes and your rights to your data here at Shrewsbury Osteopaths.

I cannot thank or recommend rowan enough for what she has done for me and my baby girl ! Not only has she made everything so much easier she has managed to make my little baby so much more comfortable and relaxed making her so much more content . She explained everything to me in a way I could understand and made me feel like I wasn’t going crazy or being dramatic as she is only newborn. Thank you so much again you have made a very stressed household happy again !
