We're an AA Four Star Gold classic English country inn, the oldest pub in Bampton, Devon. We offer the very best dishes using seasonal, regional ingredients, peppered with top-notch customer service. Among our many awards, we have two AA Rosettes for Culinary Excellence. To add to this, in 2017, 2018 and 2019, we were named as an 'Estrella Damm' Top 50 Gastropub.
Last year we ranked 28th and received a special award as the highest climber in the list. Then, this year (2019) we polled in at number 20, which was wonderful. We've also been named by the AA as the nation's 'Inn of the Year' 2019-20. It's great to be acknowledged for the hospitality we offer, as well as our food, and for our pub's lovely B&B rooms.

Services
Our menus change with the seasons and the availability of local produce, or whenever we feel like trying something new. Our daily menu is updated weekly, please check it before booking to avoid any disappointment. It's available for lunch and dinner, on all days, except Sundays, when we have a Sunday lunch menu.
Our chef-patrons Donna and Paul Berry have a great deal of experience in the industry and are celebrating more than a decade working together here in the heart of Devon. Their ethos is to provide good food, sourced locally wherever possible, while supporting other small businesses and suppliers in the community too.
As much as we are passionate about food, we don't want to lose our identity as a great pub. We're all for you popping by for a drink and a chat at the bar or, on a cold day, in our cosy snug area by the fire. We have all the drinks you'd expect a pub to stock including local artisan gins, continental lagers, fine wines and hand pulled real ales.
If you require a table of more than seven, or require further assistance, please call us on 01398 332248. Please be assured that we are adhering to the World Health Organisation (WHO) and Government guidelines and showing extra diligence through additional cleaning measures to ensure we go above and beyond our already excellent standards of hygiene.
Our spacious, comfortable rooms, which have been renovated and decorated by Devon craftsmen, are located on the top floor and have all the quirky character you'd expect from an old building with all the modern conveniences of a town house too. They're perfect for a weekend getaway to the country or business stop over.

Newish to the area and today 17/9/21 I called in for a takeaway. Looking for a steak meal but was told not available and couldn’t help me. I pointed out there was a sign outside saying take away available. So asked the same young girl assistant if I could order that meal. She went away spoke to an older women who totally ignored me but them a middle aged man came up to me and asked if he could help. I said a fish meal would be very grateful. He said not a problem. Took my order and came back within several minutes with my meal.
So far so good. While I was waiting I was talking to a man who seemed

We have so many wonderful things to say about our stay at The Swan. Our dinner, overnight stay and breakfast was all incredible. Everything was faultless and completely enjoyable, with loads of small thoughtful touches which made it feel homely but also such a treat. The customer service from the landlord Paul and all other staff was kind and friendly so thank you for a lovely, restful stay. We would highly recommend The Swan and hope to visit again!

This is a gem. Food top notch, fine dining esque.. wasn't expecting it..we were lucky enough to come here twice on consecutive nights..super accommodating..cheers for that Paul..was very appreciative of it. I had the newly listed lamb steaks.. exquisite..and so cheap (£17.50)..if I may say so for the exceptional quality..add £10 and it would be reasonable. Cheese plate was spot on too.. especially with a 50cl bottle of Sauternes for £28...what 2 sublime nights of culinary heaven...

Lively restaurant and bar. We booked a table for three and were greeted warmly on arrival. Staff were excellent, engaging, polite and attentive. After some drinks we ordered from the wide choice menu , I tried the steak ,medium rare. A huge difference from my experience at another restaurant the night before. Perfectlu cooked and tasted exactly as it should . The desserts were good and appeared well presented. A well deserved treat after a long day. Highly recommended.
