Half Moon Inn
Nestled in the Blackdown Hills AONB the Half Moon Inn at Clayhidon provides a traditional country pub experience, with fresh homemade food, real ale and stunning views of the Culm Valley. The pub has a fascinating history, a lovely log fire, and a great selection of locally sourced drinks and food.

We are featured in the Good Pub guide. Our menu features pub favourites, traditional country dishes, world cuisine and incredible homemade puddings. We are a family and dog friendly pub so feel free to pop in with the whole family after a muddy walk on the hills.
Services
The Half Moon is the longest established inn in the parish of Clayhidon. The first records show a licence was granted to Thomas Salter in 1787. Next to St Andrews church, it was probably built originally as a cottage for stone masons to live in while they built the church in the 13th Century, and this ecclesiastical connection has continued in a totally unique way.
The Half Moon sits in the peaceful, unspoilt heart of the Blackdown Hills, an AONB, ideally located for enjoying exceptional habitats for wildlife-watching and a maze of fine walks and trails. Just 2 miles away is the Wellington Monument - the tallest triangular obelisk in the world and the landmark of the Blackdown Hills.
To us at the Half Moon Inn in Clayhidon, it's imperative our food is made with the best quality produce and presented in a beautiful fashion but, most importantly, tastes exquisite. Below you will find a selection of images taken by us or our customers, because here we let our food speak for itself.

Family Sunday lunch, seated outside in a beach hut style space. Good food realistically priced. Views.

I don't even want to give this review a 1 star, but seems I have no other option. When I entered the pub I was lead to a small table which me, my partner and daughter couldn't fit our legs under as it was a 2 seater table. The table was very sticky and the smell coming from the carpet was vile. We then ordered drinks which took 20mins to arrive, followed by food. When the food finally arrived another whole hour later I could of cried, as I was so hungry by then. I took the bun off the top of my burger and the burger just all fell apart. It was like they'd just stuffed mince meat into a bun! I was

Wost landlady you will meet has no customer service experience at all good luck to any who visit! Apparently she knew how to run a pub but she kept trying to intimidate us throughout as we were not paying for food that we had not been given as advertised. Can see that has not happened for other customers which is a shame and shows the type of owner you will be dealing with had no shame at all in front off other customers. Had planed a great day out but bitterly disappointed would highly recommend using another pub!

What a find. We are on a week's holiday in Wellington and booked a table in this gorgeous pub on the morning of our booking - a table for 8 of us. Booking process was easy and friendly. An easy journey took us to this gem of a country pub with amazing views. The welcome was so friendly and accommodating when we requested pre dinner drinks outside in the garden - nothing was too much trouble. When we sat down to our table, the service was swift and friendly. We had delicious cheesy garlic bread to start with whilst waiting for our mains. All of our mains came up at the same time and it was absolutely

Sadly overstretched. Food very late, many options sold out ( limited menu - website has not been updated) and rather expensive to boot. Kookie beach huts in the garden a great idea until it got dark.... then we couldn't see our food. Pity, as it has been good here in the past.

The food was good although expensive and the staff pleasant however it took a very long time to be served, an hour and 45 minutes for the main course, we were there neary 3 hours in total.
We were also crammed onto two small round tables and an old church pew which was very uncomfortable for such a long time, not what you would expect when you pre-booked .

There are obviously staffing issues at this pub which is having a detrimental effect on their business. Our table was booked for 6.45pm. Our order got taken at 7.10pm and the food arrived at 8.10pm...nearly an hour and a half wait for the first course ! At least 3 other groups left without having more than one course and another customer was having quite a heated debate with staff due to the interminable wait for food. We left after one course because we couldn't bear the thought of waiting for a dessert. This is such a shame because the food is exceptional. Kudos to the chef for serving up one

Interesting pub. Has a small beer garden with a great view. Could do with an app to order from though as table service only and the beer garden is across the road.
Unfortunately didn't get to try the food as nobody came back to take an order despite giving us menus

Good grief the Sunday roast here was amazing—the Platonic form in pork. Crackling, cauliflower cheese, stuffing, tonnes of gravy all present and correct. It’s a little remote but SO worth the trek.

Dog friendly, and pub garden has a nice view of the hills (if you get a certain table, anyway!) Well kept Otter ale. Food was solid, and enjoyed the vegetarian platter. The belly pork (on as a special) was done well.
