All bikes are provided with a high security lock and cable so you can always secure your bike. Our bikes are serviced and cleaned before each rental to guarantee you reliability and a safe ride. Our store is located in one of the city's parks (Lammas Land) and just a short walk along the river from central Cambridge.
It's a car free location, great for riding to the famous village of Grantchester and around much of the University of Cambridge. Our bikes are ready to go and we'll be happy to give you advice and directions to any destination. Formerly known as Geoff's Bike Hire, the original bike rental service in Cambridge, City Cycle Hire took the reigns as Geoff was about to retire in 2002. His legacy of some 25 years may have disappeared if we, as former employees and passionate cyclists, hadn't stepped in to honor all existing customers contracts and maintain some ongoing commercial relationships.
Established over 15 years, and with many more years' experience in the industry under our belts, City Cycle Hire has long set the standard for bike rentals in Cambridge. You won't find company's like ours elsewhere in the UK because of the cycling culture that is unique to this city. With some of the world's first bike shops established over 100 years ago we have a long tradition of getting around on two wheels.

Our service caters for a range of cycling requirements, we make sure that all of our models are versatile and well equipped. Tourists and short term visitors might want to go sight seeing for the day or exploring the local area while longer term visitors need day to day reliability at an affordable cost during their stay in the city.
Individuals can come along to rent a bike at any time of year (no booking required), we keep plenty of bikes ready to go. Within a few minutes you'll have a bike to use. In the summer season (July/August) we suggest letting us know that you're coming to visit us if you are a group of 6 or more people.

Look no further! This is the bike shop you need in Cambridge. Very affordable prices, friendly staff, and a fantastic location. Bonus 1: useful tips about riding in and around the city. Bonus 2: great conversations with staff about anything and everything. Oh, and the bike worked very well for the whole year that I was renting it!

Rented a bike over the weekend. Good tuition on how the lock works & suggested cycle routes. They adjusted the saddle height appropriately and took the time to ensure it was satisfactory.
They prefer cash over card, given they're struggling it would be kind if you arrived with it; there is a cash machine in the nearest petrol station, a few minutes across the road.

Glad they're back!!! I've taken my family's cycles here for years, always with great results. Popped in today to have a botched repair (from a different shop) looked at, and Leon sorted it on the spot. Very satisfied. I rented a bike for two months. The price was reasonable and the bike was comfortable to ride. During the two months, a visiting friend rented a bike from Rutland and I tried it out and was able to compare. The Rutland bike had no gears and was so much less comfortable. My friend had to detach the lights each time he locked up the bike and carry them around with him, whereas the lights on my City Cycle Hire bike were integrated.

I rented a bike for 11 months from here and was very pleased with everything. The staff were always friendly and helpful, and it was great to have maintenance included. I relied on my bike to get to work, and cycled around 1300 miles on it, so it was great to relax and know they would take care of it. Would thoroughly recommend!

The people at City Cycle Hire really know how to take care of customers, whether they're daily rentals or a student who's buying a used rental bike for their time in Cambridge. They offered some great deals on bikes and also included a 28-day warranty on moving parts and a lifetime warranty for air in the tires and small adjustments. I was a little skeptical because I had a small problem with the chain on my bike on day 28 of my warranty. I took it in and they fixed it, free of charge, no questions asked. This shop sticks to their word and provides quality service and bikes. Would definitely recommend

Great place to rent a bike! You can find their prices on their website. I rented for three months, which was perfect for my summer stay. They helped me find a bike that was good for my height. It came with lights (front and rear), a bike lock & key set, a bell, and a basket. I ended up buying a helmet for safety.

I rented a bike from City Cycle Hire for a year, and couldn't have been happier with the service. The bike was a great model and fitted with really useful accessories (pedal-powered lights and a really smart and quick-to-use lock) which made it perfect to use around town. The guys are super friendly, knowledgeable, and eager to help. I'll definitely be taking my new bike there for repairs!

I rent bikes from City Cycle Hire every time I have guests in Cambridge and it's always been quick & easy, good value for money, and the bikes are good quality and well maintained. They're also my first point of call every time I need my own bike fixed, which happens frequently. They can normally do it the same day if I bring it in early enough and I've always been happy with their work. Plus, their prices are more than reasonable and the staff is always very friendly. Definitely worth 5 stars!
