The course was laid out in 1933 by Harry S. Colt, the world renowned golf course architect. Newbattle Golf Club is a mature 18 hole parkland course with tree lined fairways and strategically placed bunkers. The layout of the course, with its well protected greens, offers a challenge to every golfer.

The course is a 5912 yard par 69 which is renowned for the exceptional standards of its greens and fairways. The Club is in a truly wonderful setting and is a 'must play' for anyone visiting Edinburgh and the Lothians. It offers changing facilities for visiting golfers and a well stocked Professional shop.
Services
Visiting parties are guaranteed a warm welcome at Newbattle GC and we will endeavour to ensure you enjoy your experience of a great course and excellent hospitality. In addition to the above, there are normally a variety of seasonal Off-Peak prices on offer from our Professional Shop and we also have various 18 and 36 hole packages available which can be tailored to your own specific requirements.
A challenging opener with a slight dog-leg to the right. Pro Tip: This hole requires an accurate drive to the left half of the fairway to give the best line into a well protected green that has bunkers both to the left and the right. Beware though as Out of bounds beckons for any overhit shot. A par 4 feels like a good solid start.
The World Handicap System (WHS) was introduced in 2020. Under this system, every golfer is provided with a Handicap Index. The actual playing handicap varies form course to course based on the slope rating for the course, and the tees used for play. The following tables show the playing handicaps from each set of tees at Newbattle Golf Club, based on the player's Handicap Index.
Newbattle would like to invite you to enter the various open competitions we run throughout the summer. We would love you to take part in these great competitions on our challenging course. As a thank you for entering our Open Competitions we offer all competitors a reduction in the cost of a tee time voucher.
A traditional golfing standard of dress on the course is required, therefore denims, training shoes, collarless shirts/vests, non-tailored trousers/shorts and football colours are not permitted. All golfers are expected to behave courteously at all times, and conform to standard golf etiquette. As part of the informal club atmosphere, smart casual dress including jeans and trainers may be worn in the clubhouse.

Played the fantastic course yesterday as part of a 4 ball with one of your members Peter Allan from Woodburn. Peter was a great host and at every opportunity advised the best way to play some of the holes.
Firstly the greenkeeping staff who if I’m honest on courses rarely get the recognition they truly deserve. The greens were absolutely amazing and in great condition, well treated, cared for and I don’t recall seeing any moss on a single green.
Well done to all green keepers at Newbattle 👏👏👏
I’m a member at Pumpherston and looking for a second club to play. I had 2 other courses

Lovely course, very interesting and challenging if not too long. Would highly recommend and worth noting that the greens were absolutely exceptional - one of the best set of greens in Edinburgh.

Nice enough course. Problem with it is if it’s wet it doesn’t hold the water too great. But they have put in new drainage and it seems to be helping a lot. Greens are always excellent

Played an early 18 holes at this Nice Course with a couple of friends. The course is very well maintained and is relatively short, however it is a good layout with good greens, which take a fair bit of skill to navigate with the lines , Pace and pin positions. Will return again in the near future.
