Established over 50 years ago, Layer Preschool is an Ofsted registered preschool based in the picturesque village of Layer de la Haye. We are a pack away preschool with a vast amount of toys and equipment. Our staff change the layout and set out of various toys and activities on a daily basis. We are open to children aged 2 to 5 years from 9am to 3pm, five days a week and offer both 15 hours and 30 hours funded childcare.
Committee run and situated in the Queen Elizabeth Village Hall, we are proud of our spacious facilities and fully enclosed garden. We also have access to beautiful woodland and the village recreation ground. As a registered charity we are governed by the rules and regulations set by the Charity Commission.

Services
Layer Preschool offers childcare for 2-5 year old children in the beautiful village of Layer de la Haye. The children have the opportunity to enjoy a wide range of facilities focused on child-led play and exploration. We have various role-play areas, messy play pods, a well-stocked reading corner and a quiet tent.
Here at Layer Preschool we have a fantastic, professional team of staff. Our Manager is highly qualified and has worked within Early Years Childcare for many years. All our Preschool Assistants hold relevant childcare qualifications and are specifically trained in the EYFS framework. Our team's level of experience and expertise means we are perfectly placed to guide you and your child through their exciting transition into preschool.
Layer Preschool is a registered charity and committee run preschool. Committee members are volunteer parents, past and present, who work closely with the Preschool Manager, Office Manager and staff. Together they make decisions regarding all aspects of preschool and have a responsibility to ensure that decisions made are in the best interest of the preschool, the children and the families we serve.
We are open to children aged 2 to 5 years, five days a week and offer both 15 and 30 hours funded childcare in Colchester. We understand the concerns parents face when deciding where your child will be happiest and we know that all children settle at different rates. So for this reason we offer all new starters a series of settling in sessions.
New restrictions this year have meant we have not been able to welcome parents into preschool. We have put together this video for our new and prospective parents, we hope it gives you an insight into how our preschool is set up. Thank you to everyone at Layer Pre school for providing my daughter with the very best start and especially to Amy ❤️ She has come on in leaps and bounds, and you have helped bring out the very best in her and… we’ve loved watching her grow under your care.

Best pre school around I went there as a child and it was so nice having my child go there, Paula and her team are amazing and so Friendly, Ethan has learnt so much from being at pre school, I remember his first few months he wouldn’t stop crying when I left I felt awful leaving him as he had only just turned 2, but then he loved it so much I couldn’t get him away, will miss taking him here and seeing all friendly faces. Hopefully my next child can attend this pre school too.

I don't actually know where to start.. to Paula and all the team I can't begin to tell you how you have changed our situation. Before Bea came to you I never thought with her condition I would be able to leave her with anyone and I certainly never thought I would feel as confident with her being anywhere without us. She has grown and her confidence… has grown. You have not only shaped her into the amazing little girl she is but you have shaped me and have helped me in ways I can never express. I can't find the words to say thank you enough to every single one of you and especially of course
