We are a charity run preschool based in the Putnoe area of Bedford. We have been providing excellent early years care and education since 1981. We work hard to create a safe and stimulating setting which can provide your child with the ideal first independent step in their lives. Families are welcome to come for a look around to see what we do.
Please phone to arrange a visit. Opening during school holidays allows us to offer affordable care throughout the year whether you work or your child just enjoys being with us. We look forward to welcoming you and your child to our preschool.

Services
A little bit of history. Putnoe Woods Preschool started as an entirely different preschool in a slightly different place. We opened our doors as Rutherford Rascals back in 1981 and were located in the dining room of Mark Rutherford school only running short sessions in the morning and afternoon. Eventually we gained our own (temporary ) building and garden space in the grounds of Mark Rutherford School.
So, what is a typical day at Putnoe Woods.? We provide the children with the freedom to play freely within a structure of daily routine. As we all know with under 5's there is no 'typical day', however, it is important that the children feel a sense of security by knowing what is coming next in their day whether that be snack-time, lunchtime, song-time, story-time etc.
Our playrooms are set up to ensure all children have the facilities that suit both their age and developmentmental progress. Whilst the rooms are divided by age, unlike school where children automatically move year on year, progress between rooms will reflect not just their age but development. Any moves will be discussed between the Preschool Manager, child's key worker and family.
In this stimulating, calm and fun room we care for babies from 6 months up to around 18 months. Learning in this room is very much through sensory experiences and treasure baskets using natural everyday objects which babies love to explore. Your child will be cared for by mature staff with years of experience in this age group.
This room is full of fun and discovery and at first sight it may look a little chaotic but this is totally normal for children at this age. They learn through experimentation; we like to think of this room as the science lab!. Children start in this room from 18 months onward and is home to them whilst they are two.
