Cross Lane House
We would love to host you during your time in Exmoor, and with a good knowledge of what the area has to offer, we're on hand to share with you some of our favourite activities, and places to visit. We are not a fast food restaurant, everything is cooked fresh to order, so please be patient with us if your food or service takes longer than expected.

At just 693 square kilometres, Exmoor is one of the UK's smallest National Parks - but what it lacks in size it more than makes up for in beauty and variety. The area is known for is breathtaking landscapes and vast stretch of the picturesque West Somerset and North Devon coast line. Dunkery Beacon, the highest point on Exmoor, is a short distance away and well worth a visit, as well as Selworthy Beacon which is easily accessible from Allerford.

Working in London over the last few years, the countryside became our haven. With Ellen having spent most of her teenage years growing up in the area, we got to know Exmoor well and couldn't wait to return to re-open a business and immerse ourselves into our local communities.

Ellen's background largely consists of Hospitality, Private Dining and Events, working in an array of establishments, most recently within a wonderful team at Fortnum & Mason.Billy, brought up in South East London, has a background in photography, film production and advertising.
We have three lovely en-suite rooms which have each been individually designed & equipped with your comfort in mind. You should find everything you need in your room for a comfortable & relaxing stay with us, including a hair dryer, complimentary tea & coffee making facilities, bath robes & bath towels and our beautiful British made bathroom products by Bramley.
At Cross Lane House, we are committed to ensuring that working conditions within our supply chain are safe, that employees are treated with dignity and respect, and that manufacturing of products are ethically and environmentally responsible. We are proud to be supporting local companies where we are able to, both in our food & beverage offering but also within our three en-suite bedrooms!
At the age of 24, Bryony has worked in a variety of establishments, moulding her into a well-rounded, experienced young Chef. Having kick started her Chef career working in a rosette awarded restaurant, Bryony has worked with some fantastic, classically trained chefs who have guided her along the way, now giving her the confidence to run a kitchen of her own, cooking the food she loves to cook!
Cross Lane House is situated within the sweet hamlet of Allerford, which forms a part of the 12,000 acres of The National Trust, Holnicote Estate which sits on the Northern edge of Exmoor National Park. Exmoor is a contrasting landscape with everything from wild, rugged moorland and shingle beaches to ancient woodland and charming historic villages.

We enjoyed a lovely short stay at Cross Lane House. Everything is beautifully done, Ellen and Billy made us very welcome. An absolute bonus to be able to do some of our favourite walks from the hotel without having to use the car. We wish Ellen and Billy every success in the future. Edward and Patricia

It was fabulous! We were recommend by Bossington Hall for a birthday dinner, and were both so impressed by this lovely venue. The house itself oozes charm, and has a great ambiance. The food, cocktails, wine and service were all great. A fantastic experience. We wish we were local! Great work guys, keep it up!

The attention to detail regarding the food and overall service is second to none, whilst set in a beautiful location. The Exmoor coast, ancient woodland and moorland are all within walking/hiking distance or a short drive away.
Can’t speak highly enough and will be returning soon!

A truly beautiful place, run by beautiful people in a beautiful part of England.
We had the most amazing stay at Cross Lane House Hotel this week. From the moment you arrive you feel relaxed and at home and that’s thanks to its owners Billy and Ellen who are so warm and welcoming. It was such a pleasure getting to know them, hearing their story and the history of the Grade 2 cottage. The attention to detail in the room, the garden, the flowers, the restaurant, everything is so deserving of its 4* rating.
The evening food was absolutely delicious made with produce from their kitchen garden and

Really beautiful boutique hotel. Lots of interesting features and loved the fruit and veg patch where a lot of it goes into the menu! Brilliant self sustaining place.

We stayed at Cross Lane for three nights and didn't want to leave. Ellen and Billy have done a wonderful job and created such a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere for their guests. The little personal touches made throughout the stay just shows the attention to detail and effort they both put in to make your time there as lovely as possible. The breakfasts and evening meals were delicious with fresh ingredients from the kitchen garden. The location served as a perfect base to go exploring from and there was always a great cocktail from the bar waiting to be had on your return. We will be going back

Cross Lane House is a gem. It’s such a unique place to stay, and teamed with Billy and Ellen’s charming hospitality, our stay was very special. With the bonus of beautiful weather we were able to dine in the ancient cobbled courtyard…..such a treat. Since our last visit a few years ago, Billy and Ellen have made some wonderful improvements, particularly to the outside areas. We will be returning soon , accompanied by the other Billy ( our Cairn Terrier ) who gives 5 woofs🐾

This is a very special place. The comfy rooms, delicious locally sourced breakfast, carefully and sympathetically restored buildings and gardens make it all rather wonderful. However, it is the warmth and welcome of the hosts, Billy and Ellen, that make this a truly heavenly experience. We highly recommend it. No wonder they have been nominated- and won- an armful of awards against some industry big-guns!

We had a lovely, relaxed stay over two nights. It’s a beautiful location. The rooms are exceptionally comfortable and the hospitality on offer was second to none with delicious food at every meal and great service at all times. It’s excellent value too. I would highly recommend for anyone looking for a refreshing break.
