It's so easy to fall into bad habits. We're all guilty of it - an extra glass of wine to help us relax, another cigarette for stress relief, a few too many sugary snacks and drinks to get us through the day. Unfortunately, all of these things can have a negative impact on our bodies and minds, and once we start it can become extremely difficult to stop.

For the most part, we try to deal with these issues the best way we can - by ignoring them or by finding an outlet. But problems arise when we found ourselves unable to cope - or when the coping strategies we devise (such as drinking, smoking and overeating) begin to affect our health in other ways.

Hello, my name is Lynn Mitcham and I use hypnotherapy, counselling and mindfulness to help people free themselves from unwanted habits, behaviours and feelings, allowing them to achieve balance in their lives. Some years ago, I became interested in hypnotherapy and counselling, and the sheer power of the mind.
Stress and anxiety are both entirely normal sensations. In fact, they can be positive and motivating factors that either drive us to succeed or help us free ourselves of dangerous situations. But when they become so intense that we find ourselves struggling to cope with day-to-day life, they become a problem.
The secret to weight loss is simple, right? Exercise lots and eat healthily. What could be easier? Well, actually, it isn't that easy is it? If it were, we'd all be rocking the so-called beach body look that we're so often bombarded with on billboards, TV, magazines and social media; celebrity-endorsed fad diets would be a thing of the past; and programmes such as Weight Watchers would be out of business.
Fear is a primitive response to threatening situations, without which the human race would not have got very far. Most of us are lucky enough not to experience life-threatening or dangerous situations in our daily lives, but this does not prevent us from experiencing fearful thoughts. For the most part, we are able to maintain intellectual control over these niggling doubts, worries and uncertainties.
We don't need to remind ourselves of the dangers or repercussions of smoking. Stop-smoking hypnotherapy isn't a miracle cure. However, what it can do is take your desire to quit, and give your brain the extra impetus and drive it needs to realise that desire. If you've been reluctantly dragged here by someone else - you know deep down you should quit but you don't especially want to - it is unlikely that hypnotherapy will work for you.
