Services
We, the staff of Good Shepherd Nursery School, believe that Nursery Education is a very valuable and important experience for all children. We see it as an extension to compliment the love and care already experienced by the child at home. Each child is an individual with different needs. Our awareness of this allows us to organize a varied curriculum which will enable all the children in our care to reach their full potential.
Teaching the children to become more confident in their space and have a growing awareness of nature and biodiversity all around them. We will focus on dark nights, how to keep safe(linked to our Transport theme) and Eco concepts through our Halloween theme. Introduce colours(orange and black) into as many recyclable materials and resources as possible.
We will also talk about transport, how we get to nursery, who walks, who drives, takes a bus or a taxi. We continually encourage the children to notice the changes in weather with the changing seasons and give them a running commentary on what we notice around them. We will talk about food sources, dinners, snack, vegetables we use and prefer eating in colder weather. in winter time.
Experiment with different materials (Junk Art) and resources from home and school creating wonderful pieces of art (recycling). Reinforcing the importance of saving energy (visual displays of eco helpers) (energy) switching off lights, closing doors. Turning off taps.
Facilitate a local artist to work with the children using different materials and techniques creating a collage of the Colin and surrounding areas introducing the children to their environment beyond the school (hands on activity and ongoing) (biodiversity).Planting using old wellies creating a wonderful display for our fencing area in our "Root Shoot Buckets and Boots" garden area.

Children will investigate and become involved in a variety of seed planting learning experiences, either indoors or outdoors, both individually or in group activities. Children will be introduced to cress, herbs, marigolds, peppers, parsnips and radishes.
Continue to allow children opportunities to cut a variety of fruit and vegetable in different areas of play, (sand, water, dough, mud kitchen, art) having time to explore and experiment and discuss, colour, size, shape, taste and texture.Offer children learning experiences with magnifying glasses/bug catchers to investigate all types of living/non living things in our outdoor areas.
