Services
We offer both private and NHS eye tests and also offer digital retinal photography; we also accept eyecare vouchers provided by employers and are a VSP Vision Care provider. We are a contact lens specialist practice. Nowadays, we mostly fit modern disposable soft lenses, but are also experienced in fitting rigid gas permeable lenses.
Mark joined Barnett's as a full time Optometrist in 1985 and is now the practice owner. With over 30 years' experience, he is a caring, knowledgeable and respected optometrist who leads his staff in offering a personalised service. He is always prepared to offer help and advice to his patients, doing his all to provide good vision and to keep your eyes healthy.
At Barnett Opticians, you will receive a thorough eye examination using the latest equipment. Receive additional tests for various eye conditions, such as glaucoma, depending on your individual needs. Be asked questions about how you use your sight, i.e. for driving, work, hobbies, sports etc. We use the latest technology to provide a thorough service.
Please contact us if you are looking for a local opticians to look after the eyecare of your staff. We have provided bespoke examinations and spectacles for international companies and have experience of VDU (computer screen) legislation from both an employer's and employee's point of view. We stock a wide range of prescription protective eyewear (Safety spectacles) which can be paid for privately by you or by your company.
We all want the best for our children and the health of their eyes can have a big impact on their day-to-day lives. That's why it is important for them to have regular eye tests. At Barnett Opticians, we recommend that children start having their eyes tested before they start at school, or earlier if you feel there may be a problem.

Despite living approximately 200 miles away at one point and moving several times, I have been a returning customer for over 18 years. I have a history of complex prescription and eye condition (under Moorfields and hospital at times ) . Mark Nelson (and team ) have always treated me with professionalism, expertise, warmth and respect. Honesty and integrity. He has worked alongside me to understand how I can manage my symptoms day to day and always has a greater awareness of up to date treatments and procedures available. I have been going to Barnett Opticians for 45 years. I am always made to feel welcome and relaxed. Mark Nelson is very thorough, attentive, friendly and polite. Me and my family have been been seeing Mr Nelson for over twenty years, and throughout that time the service has been second to none. Always kind, friendly and polite, they go above and beyond to accommodate you and never provide anything less than perfect. I honestly cannot recommend Barnett Opticians enough!

My family and I have used Barnett Opticians for decades, they have always been exceptionally friendly and efficient. Mr Mark Nelson noticed an abnormality years ago during a routine eye test and referred me to my GP, who then sent me straight to the hospital. I was found to be suffering from a rare brain disorder. So not only did Mr Nelson save my sight, he saved my life. I thoroughly recommend this opticians and would never go anywhere else

I found the whole experience with Barnett opticians absolutely astounding! Its the only opticians i have been in where they didn't try and push me to spend loads of money. They simply told me the facts and let me choose! BRILLIANT!!!!! Cannot recommend highly enough! despite going to many opticians i still haven found an optometrist as caring as mark.
