I am a qualified optometrist with over 30 years experience. Born and bred in Belfast, I went to school at Lisnasharragh Primary and then Methody before studying optometry at Aston University in Birmingham. After qualifying, I practised in London and Edinburgh for several years before making the decision to move back home.

At Eric Mercer's we offer advanced eye tests to help keep your eyes in the best possible condition. As well as checking your eyesight, we take a detailed look at the health of your eyes. That includes monitoring for early signs of eye conditions like glaucoma, cataracts and macular degeneration, as well as general health problems like blood pressure and diabetes.
To help keep your eyes in the best possible condition, we invested in a state-of-the-art eye scanner, called OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography). This sophisticated piece of equipment uses advanced light-wave technology to create 3-Dimensional images of the back of your eyes. These allow us to check your eye health in unprecedented high-definition detail.
At Eric Mercer's, we are delighted to offer an accredited Emergency Eyecare service. This is part of a new NHS-funded referral scheme called NI PEARS. It recognizes the role of specially trained optometrists as the first port of call for eye problems. This means that if you develop a "red eye" or other sudden eye complaint, you can have it assessed urgently in our practice instead of having to attend hospital A&E or your GP surgery.

What can i say Eric is one of the most genuine people you could meet i have a Son with Autism who sometimes gets rouge eye lashes causing problems Eric always makes time sometimes at 30 mins notice to sort out the problem a thorough professional who always puts his patients first always a pleasant and friendly chap i could never thank him enough and my Son always feels at ease with Eric 10/10 David Phillips

I had a VDU (Visual Display Unit) eye test with Eric Mercer and also got my first ever set of glasses there. I felt very well looked after. Eric has a warm, professional manner and his receptionist was also very helpful when I was choosing frames and lenses. Highly recommended for a personal and professional service and a nice set of specs :)
