Asham Restaurant
The Asham was first opened to the populace of Newport in 1997 as a takeaway. The aim of the management was to introduce authentic culinary recipes of the highest quality from our homeland. Our culinary styles originate from East Bengal (the easternmost province of the old Indian subcontinent) now known as Bangladesh whose heritage precedes Moghul India and whose rich history is as old as ancient India itself.

Such was our impact that we have now in 2002 expanded into a restaurant, still offering you our gastronomic creations and hope to serve you yet for many years to come. Whilst India has eaten spicy food from time immemorial. It was not until the Moghul invasions that the Indian curry flowered into its finest forms.

Asked for madras strenght ends up very very mild, wife's jalfrezi was like watery slop, I use to be a regular there years ago until I found a black hair in my food, not been for about 7 years, thought I would give then the benifits of the doubt, never again, 1 star rating and that's for a comfy seat.

Best curry in Yorkshire! The food is sublime, always consistent in flavours, delicious delicate and flavoursome and really good value which makes the qualityof food even more impressive.

If you want a fantastic Indian Meal then look no further. Best Shish kebabs I've ever tasted. I've not Eaton in the restaurant as I've always had my food delivered. Always polite on the phone and very fast service. Thanks to all the staff at Asham.

We visited here on New year's Eve with the family. We hadn't booked and it was busy but we got seated. The food was very tasty and reasonably priced. Staff were very amenable to our requests and we had a great evening.

I don’t know if they had a different Chef on tonight but that was one of the worst Indian meals I’ve ever had. Food was either very greasy or watery, lacking taste and the potatoes were hard. Very disappointed because they are pretty close to us and others seem to love their food.

My meal was fine but my brother's had far too many inedible garnishes (they might have been edible but my brother didn't eat them) and not enough basic curry. Not really a criticism but too many choices make it hard to decide what to choose.

We had a night out with friends who had never tried Asham before. The food was excellent! The starters were lovely, the poppadoms beautiful and light and the four mains were superb!
Small and lovely restaurant with good friendly service, and wonderful food at a very reasonable price. Loved it!
