Merton Pre-School is a friendly Pre-School with an excellent reputation. We welcome new families to come and visit us, book a visit during a session, we like to feel that you are seeing a true picture. We aim to provide high-quality care and education for Pre-school children (from 2 years old till they go to school) in a fun, stimulating and caring environment.

The staff work in partnership with parents to help children to learn and develop to their full potential. We also aim to add to the life and well-being of the local community and offer children and their parents a service which promotes equality and values diversity. We a have a transition day for all children who have applied to the Pre-School in July.
Services
We are situated within the grounds of Merton Infants School in Basingstoke. We have our own self-contained unit attached to the school. The pre-school is run by a committee which is a mix of current parents, past parents, and some school staff. We run from one large room which is divided into zones to encourage different opportunities to play.
We are a Pre-School which accept the extended flexible entitlement. Your child will need to be 3 years and a term to receive the Early Years Flexible Entitlement (EFE) (e.g. If you receive certain benefits, DLA or the child in question is under a care order and your child is 2 years old, then you may be able to apply for funding from Hampshire County Council.
In Hampshire, all Early Years settings that are able to offer provision for children with Special educational needs or a disability, must state what services and support they can offer the children they care for. Key people get to know your child when they first start Pre-school. All children are offered a home visit, and this starts to help build the relationship between child and key person.
At Merton Pre-School, all the key people observe your child through play in order for them to see how your child is developing. When your child has achieved something new (we call a wow moment) then this is recorded. The record takes the form of a photo or your child's own work. The key person then assesses your child once your child starts, after 4 weeks of the child attending.
We go on local outings to the parks, local shops such as Abbey Road shops or Tesco in Oakridge, the large green areas nearby, allotments, local walks. We use these to learn about our world and encourage children to notice similarities and differences, see print in the environment and learn about nature.
