Services
Our highly qualified and dedicated team of veterinary surgeons, nurses and support staff work at Southfields because of their love for animals. Our team has a wealth of experience and their aim is to treat you and your pet with the utmost care. Verity qualified from Lucy Cavendish College, University of Cambridge after previously gaining a degree in Immunology from King's College, University of London.
Our practice underwent a complete transformation in 2018 in order to provide a even better experience for our customers and their pets. Our focus has been to create unrivalled treatment facilities and allow us to operate with a member of staff on the premises 24hrs a day to look after any pets that have to stay the night.
Southfield Veterinary Centre offers expert veterinary consultations and treatment for all companion animals during our normal consulting hours, with a 24 hour emergency service available outside of these hours. Our practice has a fully equipped pharmacy so that the vast majority of medication is available at the time of initial consultation.
Please note that all consultations are by appointment only. Please phone or pop in to arrange with the receptionist which vet you would prefer to see and which pet you are bringing and they will be happy to arrange a suitable time for you. If your pet is involved in an accident or requires immediate attention, please call the surgery to let us know you are on your way.
Should your pet require surgery, your veterinary surgeon will explain to you what the operation entails and the hospitalisation arrangements. Our nursing team offer outstanding aftercare and will discharge your pet with full instructions on how to care for your recovering pet at home. Our operating suite is well equipped with many items that would not be out of place in a human hospital including advanced anaesthetic monitoring systems.

Having had to use these people today for an emergency I have to say I’m not impressed at all vastly over priced , I was initially quoted £528 to stitch a wound on my dogs head which I couldn’t afford when I told them this the price suddenly dropped to less than half of that !!!
I don’t mind paying for a job well done what I don’t like is being ripped off by people who so called care for animals , the out of hours consultation fee of £145 is a joke as they advertise as being a seven day twenty four hour service there shouldn’t actually be any difference in price from a normal consultation

Our little Matilda is finally back home after a few days at Southfield Vets, Dorchester. She seemed very poorly on Friday, early hours of the morning, so we made the call to take her to the emergency vet. We were a bit surprised to be told the out of hours vet was that far away especially so early in the morning. I've got to say, it was worth it. I could not praise them enough for the excellent care and level of service they provided during these tough few days. Every member of staff was so friendly, informative and caring. Nothing was too much trouble. Thank you very much indeed. Here she is,

Our 11 year old labradoodle had developed a lump on her paw joint and we took her along to Southfield vets on 27/7/21. The vet initially suggested sending her home with antibiotics and an anti-inflammatory. He then took her inside and had burst the lump, this was bandaged and still bleeding. He then changed his mind and said "I don't like it" and "it could be a cancer". He suggested I bring her back the next day for a days' worth of tests costing £1158.29. Something seemed off so we opted to get a second opinion at another vet practice as our dog had stopped eating and was clearly very unwell

The staff members are very friendly and reassuring of your concerns. You can see that they genuinely care for animals ( My dog wanted to stay and play, he loves being around lots of people) also there were no unnecessary add-on’s which may cost a lot on money. A great, caring and honest company.

So kind and compassionate kept me fully informed of what was going on. When you have to leave your pet, who is a close family member, in the care of others, you need to have complete trust confidence in their abilities. The team at Southfield Vets are that team! I cannot thank the whole enough for what they did. They saved my dog’s life.

My dog was bitten by an adder over the bank holiday weekend while we were on holiday in Dorset. I am a vet myself, so it was very frightening knowing how sick it could make her and not being at home near my work and vets I trust. I need not have worried, as she recieved fantastic care at Southfield vets. She was treated promptly, with compassion and the communication to me as an owner was wonderful. I felt totally at ease that she would be safe and well cared for and ao grayeful that they have overnight care on site. I was called in the evening and kept updated with her progress and the vets were
