The Compasses Inn
We are very pleased to announce that we are now open, 7 days a week, for lunch and dinner. Seating for meals is outside under our beautiful new tent. It's still quite cold so please wrap up warm. You don't need to book to come just for a drink which will be outside the front of the pub (no tent). This is an unpretentious pub/bistro that is highly rated and rightly so.

It does very tasty duck breast with garlic potato mash. It's situated in a quiet part of Wiltshire reached through country lanes but worth the trip. Had lunch with a friend in this lovely unspoilt pub. The food was first class and the service also. Good range of real ales available also. The pub is dog friendly and there are beautiful walks around this quiet village.
Services
At the heart of the warm welcome that greets you at The Compasses Inn is our love of food, wine and beer. We believe passionately that good food does not need to be over-complicated. We pride ourselves on sourcing the finest ingredients and putting them to the best possible use. Our wide-ranging menu changes daily, with a keen eye on the seasons.
There are four bedrooms above the pub - three doubles and a larger 'family' room - all with en-suite bathrooms. All the rooms have wonderfully comfortable beds, lovely linen, wifi and flat screen TV's. Plum Cottage is a self-catering cottage adjacent to the pub, which sleeps up to four people. As well as one double and two single bedrooms, it has a fully equipped kitchen and a cosy sitting room with a log burner.

The Compasses is a lovely old pub with low beams and a welcoming wood burning fire. They have a fairly good selection of real ales and a nice wine list. The food is excellent and all the staff are very friendly. Highly recommended, and if it's meal you're after, book in plenty of time, it can get pretty busy, especially at the weekends.

Lovely old English inn with lots of authentic charm. Really varied menu which normally causes alarm bells for me but it was excellent. One of the best curry’s I’ve had in the UK. Partners food was also good quality and delicious. Saved to favourites and will definitely visit again next time I’m in the area.

Great little country pub that's always a winner. Friendly staff, a good wine selection and delicious food with both traditional pub and more refined dishes.
Just remember to take a torch if you go late evening. No street lights mean it can be pitch black outside when you come out!

Visited for Sunday lunch on 25 July 2021. We booked online and took a chance on the menu, as there is no lunch menus available online. As we hoped, it was traditional with roast beef, lamb and pork belly, we ordered the pork which was cooked well and came with good trimmings, however, the Yorkshire pudding was odd as it was large and flat. Mine was burnt and inedible but my wife's was okay, though it tasted strange and not like a traditional Yorkshire pudding. The pub is very old with lots of atmosphere but eating indoors, as we did, was uncomfortable. Most tables are in alcove type settings with

Fantastic old style country pub with a wonderful outside area for eating and drinking with fabulous views! Amazing food was enjoyed by our large party this evening, kitchens cooed well with a busy evening and staff were super friendly throughout. Well worth a visit if you find yourself in the area, just watch out for the huge holes in the car park!

This is not just pub food. It is first class, with an excellent and varied menu and a good wine list. The cooking was faultless. It’s a bit out of the way, but has a few rooms, so stay the night!

It has been several years since our last visit and we were very pleasantly surprised to experience a lunch to celebrate my 80 th birthday. The menu was varied and featured some delicious and unusual dishes, all… prepared quickly and served efficiently. The staff were delightfully friendly and helpful and though we had to eat outside on a bright but chilly day the food made it a most pleasant experience. I highly recommend a visit.
