Janet Barlow Care has been providing accommodation and support for people with a mental health diagnosis since 1992 and since then has built a reputation for delivering quality, individually assessed residential care.

Convinced that people with mental health issues were being let down by the quality of services available at the time, and with a belief that she could offer care and support in new innovative ways, Janet opened her first small home in Barnsley with just three residents.Nurse trained and with 29 years experience in care she was joined in 2006 by her son Andrew (RMN), a mental health professional.

Our service aims to meet the growing national need for an alternative to long term placements in secure or other inpatient environments, in line with current Government mental health strategy. We offer a comprehensive rehabilitation and recovery service in the client's home, thus avoiding the stress of constantly moving from place to place and the "revolving door" syndrome of being admitted, treated and discharged from services.
The whole team becomes part of our family run business. We join together to ensure a full assessment of the needs of every service user referred to us. Our highly trained and experienced team consists of a Registered Manager, a Registered Mental Health Nurse and fully qualified Support Workers and Activity Co-ordinators, along with administrative support.
In 2012 the company expanded its services by the development of Janet Barlow Community Recovery, offering a client community placement service with professional rehabilitative care. Giving the client the opportunity to live independently with specialist care to assist in building daily living skills, this aims to reduce the chance of relapse and time spent on hospital wards.
