Portishead Pre-School (formerly Portishead Playgroups) consists of two fantastic pre-school settings; Hilltop Pre-School and Brampton Pre-School, situated in the town of Portishead, North Somerset. In 2014, Portishead Pre-School celebrated its 50th year of providing excellent pre-school education to the children of Portishead.

Both settings work together and are led by experienced Manager; Sarah Bailey. Each setting benefits from large outdoor spaces, a wide range of resources and a team of dedicated and experienced staff. Both settings operate term time only and offer 15 and 30 hour funded places for 3 and 4 year olds, and Hilltop is also able to offer 2 year old funded places.
Services
Brampton Pre-School operates from purpose built premises on Brampton Way, Portishead. There are places for up to 30 children who are eligible to attend following their 3rd birthday. Parents, staff and committees over many years worked tirelessly to raise a fantastic 70,000 to enable our new premises to be built in 2003.
Sessions are charged at 17.00 per session, or can be funded using either the 15 hours of free childcare for all 3 and 4 year olds (details available here) or using the additional 15 hours of funding (details and application form). For 3 and 4 year old funding, the child can only receive a funded place from the start of the term after their birthday (subject to their birthday being before the funding period date).
Portishead Pre-School (the charity that manages Hilltop and Brampton Pre-Schools) is run by a voluntary committee, of both parents and members of the community. The committee must have a minimum of 4 people and are voted into position by parents of the children who attend the Pre-School. This takes place at the Annual General Meeting, which is held each autumn.
As a registered charity fundraising is a vital part of the Pre-School budget. The Pre-School receives funding from North Somerset for children the term after their third birthday, however, this only covers the basic operation.

Because of this, fundraising is essential in order to maintain our generous ratio of adults, provide a free flow play ethos, as well as providing resources that encourage learning and development and also the cost of learning diaries.Fundraising is managed by the committee, however we welcome support from all parents.
Demand for the places offered by Portishead Pre-School is such that we have to operate a waiting list. Spaces are allocated annually. In the Autumn we allocate session spaces for the following September to current children who will be returning for another year. Then, in January we start offering spaces to the children on our waiting list, in age order, starting with the eldest.
