Unfortunately due to a lack of staff we have to close our doors whilst we recruit and train. With a landlord boasting almost 15 years of cask ale and cellar managment it is no wonder that the Flock has been Cask Marque accredited for the whole of his tenure. With a combination of ever changing local and national brands there is always something for everyone.
The landlord is also a big advocate of drinking his ale from a traditional handled glass, but he begrudgingly keeps straight glasses for those that don't share his ethos.

Services
Here at the Shepherd we pride ourselves on being a warm and friendly environment for anyone to come and eat or drink. With an emphasis on customer service and good home made food we all look forward to welcoming our guests. Thomas has been the landlord since 2014 but has worked at the pub since records began.
The funeral is the send off for a loved one and we believe that the flexibility of the venue is absolutely key, that is why we will accommodate a wake outside of our normal food service times, provide bespoke buffets, order in a favourite drink, run a tab behind the bar and quite simply be as helpful as is possible.

I last visited this pub back in 2020 just before the lockdowns happened. I received great service from Chloe B. I came twice (both times in the evening) this week and can't complain, and will certainly visit again. A good selection of ales and they were very good at ensuring I signed in and didn't forget to wear my mask! It was good to be back. A good selection of ales on tap and nice to shoot a few games of pool with the locals.

Best roundabout for car / motorbike spotting. If you want to go for a chat, expect me to look away. A lot.
I'm writing this as Covid-19 restrictions are in place so things may change:
We booked a table and were greeted by a bar hostess who showed us to the table. If you have the NHS app you can scan the QR code otherwise you'll need to sign in on the sheet of paper.
To order you had to scan a QR code and it would bring up a menu which you can then order drinks / food from. They also have the option of dog treats which is quite nice for the many canine folk that visit this pub.
Just drank no

Admittedly just after pubs reopened but we booked a tab
le for 5 to eat. We asked on booking if they were serving food. The answer was "yes we do food but it's basically burgers and pizzas and stuff " so we booked .... the pub is not particularly well maintained and the food it transpired is served from a hut . It was delivered to our table in polystyrene containers inside a brown bag. We then had to request cutlery and sauces and some missing items from our order. Which was met with not very helpful response.. The burgers were OK though bit not the pub meal we were expecting . As we went out

A highly enjoyable lunch in the Sun; good food and great service combined to make a first post-lockdown pub lunch all we hoped it would be. The owner/management has clearly spent some time making things as good as possible within the currently parameters they have to work within but all went very smoothly.

I cannot recommend highly enough regarding service. I am vegan and gluten free and the chef comes out to speak me through what he can rustle up and it always comes with a smile and delivers on taste. They are continuously looking at ways to spice up the menu, the wait staff are delightful and accommodating and the pub itself is cosy, warm and English.
Highly recommend!

First visit and given website comments about cellar management expertise and chef experience was expecting a great deal more than we got! Firstly my pint of Theakston's was flat as a pancake...and tasted off. Took it back, to be told "I'm not surprised"... What sort of response is that!!!!! Terrible! The pasta dish was bland and boring...no garlick AT ALL and the chicken was white... should have some colour. The source watery. Any self respecting chef would not allow over the pass!! All in all I will NOT be back! This pub needs a landlord that shows some interest and imagination and desperatly
