Oakman Inns & Restaurants was founded in 2005. Our vision was to create an environment where like-minded people could come and enjoy some great food and drinks whilst catching up with friends, family, neighbours and colleagues. Built on the ancient Roman road of Akeman Street in 1901, the Akeman in Tring reopened its doors in 2007.
Our Victorian building was designed by acclaimed local architect William Huckvale, and several original features have been retained, including the Victorian facade and the fireplace in the bar. The wood panelling, full-length windows and warm decor have transformed us into a destination venue located just seconds away from the centre of town.

Services
Traceable from field to fork, our Mediterranean-inspired food is served from 8am, Monday to Saturday, and from 9am on Sunday. Dishes include steaks and fish cooked in our charcoal-fuelled Josper grill, as well as pizzas, pasta dishes and home comforts. Our expert pizzaiolos craft genuine wood-fired Neapolitan pizzas.
The provenance of our drink is impressive with our extensive wine list having been compiled with help from Enotria&Coe, a company with a history spanning more than 125 years. In addition to stocking popular beers from Fuller's, we have a selection of locally sourced drinks from Tring Brewery. Fresh, raspberry and strawberry nose, with a light and juicy palate bursting with forest fruit.
Please note that all of our tables are available to book through our online booking system. When making a booking enquiry, if there isn't a table available at your chosen time and the system doesn't offer you an alternative time then unfortunately we are fully booked. We recommend either trying a different day to see if we can accommodate your booking or alternatively why not explore one of our sister venues.
The Boardroom is a stylish, modern alternative to your classic meeting room. Seating up to 10 people, the space is ideal for senior management meetings away from the office, or small businesses and freelancers looking for the perfect environment to impress their clients. With super-fast business grade wifi throughout, the room is fully equipped with a TV screen for presentations, and benefits from its own coffee machine.
Whether you're arranging a business meeting, looking for somewhere to host your next family gathering, or planning a celebration of some kind, The Akeman in Tring is suited to all kinds of gatherings. Number 10, the more private area in our bar, is the perfect space to host birthdays, christenings and all other celebrations, whilst upstairs, the Boardroom is a great space for all your business needs.

Just a note to say we made an impromptu visit to your pub at lunch today after visiting the natural history museum - the rain cancelled our plans!
From the moment we stepped through the doors the staff were all… so welcoming and helpful. We were there with our two year old twins and they had the best time and loved the food. The lady serving us was one step ahead of us at all times with crayons, beakers of juice, cutlery and putting the kids order through first. We all left with full tummies. We shall be back again!

I had the end of my hen do here last night after spending the day in Champneys and it was amazing! My mom visited the day before to drop off decorations etc in which the staff laid out on the day with no… bother, the staff couldn’t have been more attentive and welcoming. The food was BEAUTIFUL as were the cocktails! It was such a great night and is highly recommended, we’ll be back for sure x

Love the ambiance of the place. Modern and clean and options to dine outside under a huge canopy. Service is good without being over the top.
Opted for olives and breads for starters. Stone dishes and olive oil/balsamic in bottles was a nice touch. Mains: salmon and potato salad. Tasted good but lacked presentation. Later saw a Cesar salad leaving the kitchen which looked much better.
Would give 4.5 stars if an option. Recommended.

Love the Akeman. Good atmosphere, food is pretty good and prices are OK. Staff always friendly and helpful - can't fault them. Very stress free dining for a family with small children. They have a children's menu, and that has activities on it to keep them busy. Sunday Roasts are the best value. Good beer service, particularly from Tring Brewery. Takes me back to my youth....

I come here quite a lot and have had very mixed experiences.
The food is OK, but the last 2 times I've been they didn't have what I wanted from the menu. I also find it to be overpriced for what it is.
The bar area is really comfortable and nicely decorated. The drinks selection is good, and even though it is cheap compared to London it is pricey for the area.
My main issue is that I find The Akeman to be quite stuffy and pretentious. They have quite a strict dress code policy at weekends, and we have been turned away a couple of times because someone in our group was wearing trainers

The restaurant earns one star back for being open latest on weeknights.
Ordered pork belly bites, calamari, the sirloin medium rare, and a glass of wine with the meal.
Pork bites were dry and tasteless. Apple purée was smeared all over napkin on plate. Calamari was rubbery and over done, much akin to eating plastic.
Steak was significantly over cooked, and way over seasoned. Not a server in sight to send it back. Merlot came after dinner was consumed. No beverage during meal, which I find unacceptable. Chips with meal, no vinegar or ketchup provided. Again, no server, ate the leathery steak

Definitely trendy, and as a Tring resident who has eaten here maybe 20 time in last 4 years I can also confirm that is is now very overpriced and offers very poor service. On our last few visiits we have had to send food back every time on one occasion the food had to be sent back three times before we gave up, but were able to keep ourselves amused while waiting by listening to other tables around us sending their food back as well. Its strange that the other restaurants owned by this chain get such good reviews while this one consistently gets bad ones on all major review sites.

The Akeman is quite possibly the most trendy bar in Tring, also doubling as a restaurant serving a wide selection of well cooked food. It is primarily a wine bar but also serves a fine selection of world beers on draught. It is a little more pricey than the some other bars in Tring but is certainly not over expensive. It is very well kept inside and is a fantastic place to drink and meet friends. It can get a little busy on Friday and Saturday nights however this is not unpleasant, it may just take longer to reach the bar!
