Services
Discover the rich history of this magnificent Welsh Castle. From humble beginnings back in 1277 right up to the present day, many generations have passed through these halls and we would like to share our story with you.

The first documented castle was created by Dafydd, brother of Prince Llewelyn ap Gruffydd, for King Edward I of England in 1277 who gave the fort (that was present on the site) to him in return for his treacherous help during the invasion of North Wales that year.Dafydd also had castles at Caergwle and Denbigh.
We urge all guests to follow the recommended Government guidelines regarding travel and social distancing. For 2021, minimum age 16 for spa access and treatments (must be pre-booked and accompanied by an adult). Throughout the hotel, there are steps leading to most facilities and where possible we have placed ramps and lifts within the parameters of the hotel's listed building status.
Legendary Ruthin Castle has been welcoming guests - including Kings & Queens and noted members of society - for several hundred years and today, that long history of delivering warm hospitality and comfort to guests continues, having received a Visit Wales Gold Award which rewards outstanding quality, exceptional comfort and hospitality.
The Castle's Standard guest rooms are more compact than others. Like other guest rooms, these have been designed to reflect the character of this authentic Welsh Castle; many offer views of the gardens, Castle grounds, open fields or woodlands. Castle Standard guest room bathrooms are modern, many with slate character and bath and/or shower facilities.
Our Suites are as authentic and indulgent as The Castle itself, each offering very unique styling and decoration inspired by previous high profile guests of The Castle. At the same time, modern comforts and conveniences abound including Ruthin Castle Robes for all the Castle Suites. Named after Mary Cornwallis-West or 'Patsy' to her close friends and family.

Bit disappointed overall we had a suite plagued by ladybirds mentioned this on checkout and they said it's not the first time it been mentioned but obviously not done anything about it. Place itself bit tired definitely not worth the money cost us £546.00 2 nights dinner bed and breakfast menu same both evening's not much choice only 4 starters and 4 main meals to choose from and 4 dessert, staff were very good, spa closed which we didn't know until we got there. Not recommend unfortunately.

Full disclosure we did not stay here we just came here for a wander around the grounds and the inside. The staff were friendly and the grounds outside were nice with plenty of wildlife including peacocks and cheeky squirrels.
The castle inside is kept quite authentic with lots of interesting architecture and things to see. Its in very slight disrepair in some places but that's unavoidable in buildings this old. If you like this kind of setting you should definitely consider staying here.

Really lovely building but needs some TLC. The staff were very pleasant but under staffed. It's in a great location and Ruthin is a lovely town. The evening meal was very tasty. Lots of potential to make this an incredible stay.

Fantastic high ceilings and quirky charm. Friendly staff. The bar was lovely with a roaring fire and lots of good gins, great bar staff! Our room was enormous with lovely views. Our bathroom needed total refit but I think this is planned.

Arrived after dark at this stunning castle, which was beautifully lit. Inside is very clean, and spacious, with lots to look at. Bedroom is clean, bed huge, rooms warm, bathroom out of this world... lots of storage in bedroom/plugs/ and well lit.
Beautiful views from room. Breakfast again couldn't fault it!
Never used spa as stayed for a shopping trip, but already looking into coming back and using them facilities.
Highly recommend

I was so excited to visit Ruthin castle. Highly disappointed!! Especially by the Spa! I booked my partner in for a 50 minute massage. We arrive there to be told that they can only do 25 minutes as they are down staff members. We drove 38 minutes to have a 25 minute massage?! I was told I would get half my money back and still haven’t been refunded!! I have called and called and no response. The massage was at 5pm and we are then told it will only be at 5:30pm. My partner was left waiting for 30 minutes just to get a robe to sit in the quiet room. The toilets stank of urine and the taps weren’t

Beautiful suite. Very clean and tidy plenty of storage space, comfortable bed and a beautiful bathroom. The evening meal was delicious and a very good choice of breakfast from the buffet. Set in beautiful grounds, well worth a visit and a wander around the village . The staff were very courteous and helpful, especially the house keeper who kindly helped with our luggage. Exceptional for weddings, parties, and long weekends.

My husband and I got married here two months ago and we had the best day! The venue is stunning, the grounds breathtaking and the staff went above and beyond to make the day so special for us. There were some staff shortage but if we hadn't have been aware we would have no idea as this did not impact us in the slightest or our guests. The staff made us and our guests feel so welcome and there was a lovley welcoming and calm atmosphere. After the wedding we stayed up until the early hours with our guests and we weren't rushed throughout the day. They made the whole day run smooth and couldn't do
