Shropshire Farm Vets
We are a dedicated farm animal practice providing services to farmers and smallholders, in and around Shropshire. We provide a friendly, professional service whilst promoting animal health and welfare 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. We are active members of XLVets, a group of independently owned, progressive veterinary practices that work together to achieve the highest standards of veterinary care.

By working together and sharing experience, knowledge and skills we seek to define the highest standards of veterinary practice. Out of hours medicine requests: Medicines are dispensed out of hours by the vet on call if urgently required. We encourage clients to make medicine orders during the week where possible, to keep the vet on call free for emergencies and in order to take advantage of the pay-at-the-time discount.
Services
We are a progressive and expanding twelve vet farm practice committed to Shropshire livestock owners. We endeavor to provide an excellent standard of veterinary care with a friendly professional approach with cost effective prices. 9 full time veterinary surgeons focused entirely on livestock and 3 full time TB specific vet.
Alistair and Tim had previously worked together in farm only positions in Cheshire and had seen the benefits a focused farm animal only service could deliver for farmers and for vets. Initially there were two full time vets with Bill Adams helping out on a part time basis. As the practice grew, Roel Driesen joined as an assistant in 2004, and subsequently became a director in 2008 when the practice became a limited company.
We actively encourage those veterinary students who wish to pursue a career in farm practice to visit us for an EMS placement. Please contact us through the vetEMS website where you will be required to enter information about yourself and your interests. You will be able to access our on-line calendar to check on available dates.
Most of our dairy clients opt to have routine fertility visits once a fortnight, at a pre-arranged time of day and day of the week. This is timed to fit easily around the daily working of the farm, and is usually soon after morning milking. One vet is designated as the vet primarily responsible for the routine, and another as back-up.
Mastitis control is one of the big challenges with increasing size and yields on our dairy farms. However, mastitis is not inevitable. There are clear and well proven strategies that can work to reduce mastitis in almost every situation. On farms with high incidence of mastitis, the 5 point plan, which is more than 40 years old is still valid.
