Gibson & Thomson Opticians
The highest priority for the NHS remains the safety of staff, patients and visitors. Public Health England's infection prevention control guidelines are set to remain in place for all staff and visitors and across all health services including hospitals, GP practices, dentists, optometrists and pharmacies to ensure patients and staff are protected.

The government has previously issued advice that you should attend for your routine NHS appointments, which includes opticians visits. Please feel free to contact us to discuss your requirements. Due to limited space, we can only allow two people in reception, so please expect a short delay while we attend to your query.
Services
We have been serving the eye care needs of people in Garstang and surrounding areas for many years, and make every effort to create a warm and friendly atmosphere in relaxed surroundings. We often "step back" and look at ourselves as you see us, to make sure we are giving the right impression, offering the right products and services, and most importantly are treating people as we ourselves would like to be treated.
Eye care is our first concern. When you visit us we will treat you with respect, dignity, honesty and courtesy. Whether you want contact lenses, an in-depth enhanced eye examination or a routine sight test, we will always do our best to fulfil your needs. We take nothing for granted when we examine your eyes, and will always take full account of your individual personal needs before making any recommendations.
What is OCT? OCT is similar to an ultrasound scan but uses light rather than sound to look through the layers of the retina, giving us a 3D view of the inside of your eye. When an optometrist looks inside your eye in a standard examination they can see the surface of the retina, but with an OCT scan we can literally see through the surface into the layers beneath.
As the General Ophthalmic Services (GOS) guidelines state, minor eye conditions such as red eye, dry eye, inflamed eyelids, flashes of light and floaters, etc are not covered by a standard sight test, unless you are due for your routine annual or two yearly examination.

If you are not yet due for this and require advice or assistance with something out of the ordinary not related to changes in vision, we may be able to see you on a private basis, usually by appointment. We are often able to diagnose, advise on, and if necessary offer treatments or products to help with certain conditions.
Do you have a pollen allergy? The British College of Optometrists has released an infographic, shown below, to help those who find the increased pollen in summer months causes itchy or red eyes. There is good evidence to show that the use of certain eye drops in the weeks leading up to the time period that affects you, can help produce a marked reduction in the symptoms experienced.
