I want to give a fair and balanced review. Wooder Manor is a pleasant stay in the beautiful village of Widdecombe. Due to the proximity to the moors one must accept that mobile phone and Internet access is compromised. However, the landlady is very pleasant and can provide a phone if required. Equally, the roads are very narrow and it can get misty on the moors.
The accommodation is rustic, clean, warm and dry. Water is lovely and soft and a hot shower or warm bath are great after a day's walk or cycle.
It takes about 48 minutes to get to Torquay or Paignton, with Newton Abbott being the nearest

Nice place, unpleasant woman
When we arrived, we were greeted by the owner telling us that she had hoped to retire by now. I think this might be the best for all concerned.
We stayed in Lower Hameldown, which has a shower room. The owner said that the mop and bucket she provided wasn’t up to the job of drying the floor. We suggested getting better equipment. She suggested that I get on my hands and knees and dry the floor with a floor cloth. I stuck with the mop that she provided. She badgered us about the floor another twice during our stay. She didn’t ruin our holiday, but she took the

Highly recommend wooder manor I have been staying here for the last 34 years when we go on holiday . The owners are extremely friendly and will do whatever they can to make your stay a wonderful one . You at a 0.5 mile flat walk to the village of widecombe. Wooder manor is like a little patch of heaven on earth it's very peaceful no phone signal or Wi-Fi which if your getting away from the hustle and bustle of town life is well needed but they do offer internet via a Ethernet cable so ok can plug your laptop in . But I can't recommend this place enough myself and the wife have already decided on

Started visiting in the early 80s with my parents and now go back with my kids every year.
I can't recommend it enough from the lovely owners who can offer suggestions for days out through to cottage and surrounding grounds.
I've found self catering hit and miss and when travelling with kids this can make or break a holiday so the facilities here are perfect to make life easier and your holiday more fun.
I'll be back next year !!

I first stayed at wooder manor with the bell family when this was a fully functional diary farm and I have been going back ever since .As soon as you travel down Widecombe hill into the village all the stress and strain for day to day city leaves you instantly . I would highly recommend to anyone that is looking for a quiet tranquil holiday location this is the place to go .And we are looking forward to our next holiday this coming october
