The Rice Boat
Please note-the restaurant is now open for in-house dining and take away for collection only. The traditional cuisine of Kerala includes lots of lentils and fresh vegetables. As a result, our menu contains a wide array of gluten free, vegan and vegetarian dishes. These are authentic Kerala dishes rather than substitutes.

If someone in your group doesn't want to feel self-conscious about their dietary requirements we provide a varied and welcoming place to take them. If you have any questions just call ahead or ask us when you get here. We'll be delighted to explain any ingredients and help you choose a dish that suits you.
Services
What do you do if you're an engineer who loves food and misses his Mum's Kerala home cooking? What do you do if you're an accountant who works in recruitment but dreams of a more independent and creative life? The Rice Boat in Newnham, Cambridge, is Jacob and Rita's much-adored extra child and they're delighted to share it with guests from far and wide.
We understand that not every group catering event can be handled in our restaurant, but wherever you are in the Cambridge area we'll be delighted to work with you to make your event go well. We have all the equipment needed to keep food hot for several hours at your office, home, party venue or festival.
Not sure where to party? Celebrate your special birthday, wedding anniversary or business event here with us. We'll work with you to tailor a menu specifically for the occasion and discuss extra touches from music to flowers to candles. We'll discuss your dietary needs as a group, make suggestions based on our knowledge of Kerala food and customs (we draw our inspiration from traditional festival foods as well as simple, wholesome home cooking).
If arriving from Madingley (A 428, M11 Jn 13) or Huntingdon Road (Histon, A14) or Chesterton Road (Milton), turn onto Queen's Road and drive towards the Silver Street Junction. Parking is available on Queen's Road. Walk forward, past the Silver Street junction, past Darwin College and Granta Pub on your left and Rice Boat is just two doors away on the left, after the boating lake.
Riceboat is on the main Ring Road in Cambridge so there is no parking on-site. We have a drop-off area at the back of the restaurant which you are welcome to use briefly. Drive through the archway between the Riceboat and Domenic's hairdresssers, bear left to the space beyond the building to your left.

The food and service were both absolutely amazing. The staff were kind, welcoming and accommodating. It seemed like care was put into everything, from every delicious dish we ordered (quite a few) to the lovely little bunches of flowers on each table. Couldn't recommend it more and definitely coming back

We revisited Rice Boat last evening for the first time in more than a year. We had some very delicious authentic Kerala food and had also pre-ordered a good supply of our favourite biriyanis (both lamb & chicken), fried masala fish & porottas). They serve the most delicious and authentic Kerala cuisine.
Very much looking forward to our next visit.

Excellent Indian food with a Southern Indian twist. The prawn balls are to die for and the ingredients were fresh and of good quality. I had lemon rice which actually tasted of lemons :-) and the waitress was super friendly. Would definitely go there again.

Excellent restaurant ! Fast service and great food. I've tried several dishes, last ones being vada, prawns in mango (excellent with coconut rice) and the lamb with parotta. The pistachio dessert is a delicatessen too (recommended to have it with the dessert wine). All in all one of my favourite places in Cambridge (celebrate my anniversary here every year).
