The Royal Pier, one of Sandown's finest Hotels, was originally built by the Victorians for Princess Beatrice as her summer residence. The property later became a very popular meeting place for those wealthy travellers who followed in the path of royalty to walk the pier and enjoy the invigorating fresh sea air.

Hence the Royal Pier Hotel was established and has since then cared for many visitors either for a short break or a long family summer holiday. We are situated on the seafront facing one of the finest award winning and perhaps the most popular beach on the island. We are centrally located in Sandown, with just less than 2 minutes walk away from the high street which offers many shops and facilities to your leisure.
Services
The Isle of Wight Zoo is a family-run zoo with a special interest in tigers and lemurs. The zoo was built within the ruins of a Victorian Fort built to guard Sandown's coast, which means we face one of the Isle of Wight's nicest beaches. Once upon a time the zoo owners used to walk tiger cubs on the beach, and we're still famous locally for it.

The hotel is a bit dated but the room was adequate and the food was good. The bar prices were very cheap for an hotel. The hotel staff were efficient and friendly. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Friendly hotel. We had the last double room available, which was small but clean and well presented. Breakfast offered a good selection served by very pleasant staff. The big downside was some guests smoking in the entrance which was unpleasant. On the Sunday morning one guest was outside in her dressing gown smoking, which, in my opinion gave the wrong image.

Positives:
Excellent sea facing hotel with very friendly staff. We booked two twin rooms for two nights. The price was reasonable but you get what you pay.
Negatives:
Very old building, needs renovation, fresh carpets and mixer taps in the bathroom
One of the rooms did not have hand shower, so you could only take a bath. I think both options should be there. I personally do not like to take bath in hotel bathrooms. So basically we had to go to the other room to shower. I am happy we had that option as we booked two rooms.
Housekeeping did not clean the room or provide fresh towels. Only the
