In 1930, Father Kennedy who was Parish Priest of Newtownards, and whose area of responsibility included Donaghadee, was keen that Catholic school should be established in the town. He tried, without success, throughout England and Ireland to secure the services of a religious teaching order. Then his curate, Father McKeown, suggested trying the Convent of Mercy in Downpatrick.
As well as Personal Development and Mutual Understading, the programme will centre around the curriculum areas of Play (Miss McNamee's class), The Arts (Mrs Adams and Mrs Hennessy's class) and P.E. Our P6 and P7 pupils have been making friends with pupils at their partner school, Ballyvester PS. They created Ebru art pieces based on the painting, "Water Lillies" by French painter Claude Monet.
Each month, we focus on some "Star Qualities" and the teachers and staff award "Stars in the Jar" to pupils who display these qualities at school. At the end of the month, the team with the most points will win extra play time and one person from each team will win their Star trophy to take home for the month and share with their family.
