Physiotherapy is a medical based health care profession that uses hands on treatment techniques, electrotherapy and exercise therapy in restoring human movement and function. Physiotherapy is governed by research and evidence based practice ensuring the most appropriate and safe techniques are utilised for the treatment of musculoskeletal problems.
Through numerous studies it has been found that body movements are generated from the 'core' - a combination of deep spinal muscles attaching to the spine and abdominal wall creating a 'muscular corsette'. When we suffer back pain, the larger outer back muscles spasm, working harder while the deeper stabilising muscles work less.
When you get injured or feel aches and pains anywhere in your body it is essential for the problem to be understood. How did the injury occur and what has been damaged? How has the body adapted and what is preventing the return to health? Osteopathy is a manual therapy that has scientific and evidence based research to back up the subjective benefits mentioned by patients.
