Nestling at the foot of rolling hills, Cuilfail Hotel is a splendid former drovers inn and one of the oldest purpose built hotels on the west coast. The hotel was originally built as a drovers' inn, however the majority of the hotel was built during the Victorian era and many features of that period have been preserved.

The main part of the hotel was built in the 1883, the drovers inn is much older and part of it is now our cosy and unique bar. The hotel was built to provide for the fishing in the many hill lochs of the area. For the owners Yvonne and Simon Fletcher, good home made Scottish food using local ingredients wherever possible is very important, Chef's own Steak & Ale Pie, made with prime Scotch Beef is always on the Menu.
Services
As a result of CAMRA's ( CAMPAIGN FOR REAL ALE ) pioneering efforts to identify and help protect our countries historic pub interiors, we have the honour of being awarded a place in the Historic Pub Guide. The Bar, featuring an open fire, and the original stone walls and floor, stocks a wide range of ales, liqueurs, Scottish Gins and malt whiskies, naturally specialising in those originating from the west coast of Scotland and the Western Isles.
We are located conveniently on the A816, 15 miles south of Oban in the little village of Kilmelford, near the shore of loch Melfort in the western Highlands. Take the A82 to Fort William then the glorious coastal road to Oban via Appin, then continue south on the A826 - Kilmelford and the hotel are around 15 miles south of Oban.

Nice helpful host. Wasn't here long. We just needed to recover from a horrendous car trip due to a road closure. Closure was due to a fatality so a touch of motion sickness is trivial.

We were on holiday with family staying at Melfort Village and found ourselves needing to find a nearby restaurant at extremely short notice due to unforseen circumstances. Within 30 minutes of calling the Culfail Hotel our party of eight were warmly greeted and shown to a table in a beautiful, typically Scottish style dining room. We were presented with a varied menu catering for all tastes and served a delicious dinner. Nothing was too much trouble and our family were treated a wonderful evening! Many thanks and we will be back next year!

My wife and I stopped there for a well earned cup of coffee earle one morning. The land lord and lady were haveing a tea break outside as well. There were more than happy to serve us. And recommended a new road to ride on. Which terned out to be a great adventure. Its as simple as talking to folk..

A gem of a place. The service was impeccable and the food amazing. Perfect spot to watch the world go by. The whisky selection was great. Will definitely visit again if the owners are the same.

Stopped by for a coffee and dessert on our trip along the west coast, was initially told the desserts werenโ€™t available for another few hours but they decided very kindly to make the order for us anyway. Lovely food and coffee, great service :)
