Great location and tasty food after a good walk on the Tarka trail. Went back for breakfast the next day! Only complaint was the temperature which was a little chilly. Otherwise really nice.

Our eating experiences at the Puffing Billy are always eagerly anticipated. Excellent, unfussy service. Good food in the quirky and well maintained surroundings of the former Torrington Train Station in safe conditions, necessary during the continuing Covid-19 pandemic. Long may the venue continue.
The Sunday Roast takeaways have been a must during the pandemic restrictions. We always have the nut roast choice. No complaints.

We called into the Puffing Billy Cafe after a walk on the Tarka trail. We had a pot of tea for two & coffee & walnut cake. The cake was so fresh, moist & delicious and it was a lovely pot of tea with fantastic flavours. We got five cups of tea out of the pot.
The lady who served us, cleared & sanitised a table especially for us, so we could sit out of the way, as we are shielded.
Great, friendly service, will definitely visit again, and I certainly recommend the Puffing Billy Cafe.

Nicely diverse menu, small but excellent options. I look forward to visiting in summer to sit in the garden. A lovely conversion of the old station.

Fabulous Roast Turkey lunch at The Puffing Billy. Great service and Jade and Claire the new owners were fabulous hosts. Lovely feel of a former railway station with rail memorabilia. Would recommend.

Not impressed with today's experience. My partner tried to use the restaurant entrance to order coffee but was abruptly told to order in the garden. The coffees came but my cappuccino had no coffee in it. They had given me a cup of hot milk. When this was exchanged it had a bitter taste that was not the same as the smooth cappuccino my partner had. Then I wanted to use the toilet. Keen not to make the same mistake as my partner I went to the front door, read the notice, masked up and entered. I was rudely told that the inside was not open. I explained I wanted the ladies room and was abruptly told

Had the pulled pork sourdough sandwich. Very nice. The chips were also great and clearly hand cut.
The café itself is currently serving outdoors only. One goes up to the shed to order.
They are very dog friendly and happily provide water for your thirsty companions.
I would highly suggest trying the chips.

Visited on my bike with a large group. The Puffing Billy seems to have been upgraded since the earlier reviews and was very pleasant inside and out.

The display of cakes was excellent. All the choices seemed to be moist and fresh. My bakewell tart was lovely.

The tea drinkers had lots of choice & my double espresso was spot on.

I would strongly recommend to spend a pleasant hour or so. The food choices looked good, but it was too early for lunch when we visited.

The Puffing Billy has changed owners and is currently not a Pub. It is temporarily operating as a cafe offering good coffee, other non-alcoholic beverages and a variety of sandwiches, pastries and other snacks during the daytime only. It provides an excellent place to take a break whether you are following the Tarka trail or driving through the area.

The building is the old station with the platform providing an enclosed seating area and garden tables available during nice weather. There is a nostalgic feel to the old stone building which is decorated with items from the old railway age and old

Fine for a drink outside on a sunny day but not much else. The bar area in dingy, musty and neglected. The only plus is the location - on the famous Tarka Trail. Very sad as this could be a great destination pub with the right ownership.
