Tea & Tittle-tattle
Traditional Devon cream teas and our infamous vintage afternoon tea are favourites at Tea and Tittle Tattle and have won us the coveted Best South West Cafe in 2017 from Taste of the West! In our seaside tea shop and restaurant we pride ourselves on our unpretentious home-made food and generous portions!

Using locally sourced produce wherever possible, our customers can relax and enjoy some of our delicious home cooking in our warm and friendly atmosphere, just a stones throw from our idyllic pebble beach here in Budleigh Salterton on the Jurassic Coast of East Devon. Here at Tea and Tittle Tattle we are fully licensed with a selection of wines, beers and ciders and are happy to cater for private evening functions for parties of 20 or more.
Services
We are Gareth and Denise and we have owned Tea and Tittle Tattle since 2008. We pride ourselves on our unpretentious homemade food and are committed to using and promoting local produce as much as possible. Our committed team work hard to create a warm and friendly atmosphere where our customers can relax and enjoy some of our delicious home cooking.
Treat yourself or someone you love to a special treat, our Vintage Afternoon Tea is something a little out of the ordinary and is becoming very popular. We aim to make you feel very special and provide you with a selection of treats all served on an assortment of vintage bone china with real china teapots and fabulous two tiered cake stands.
We try to use local produce where we can and are always on the look out for new products to try. Our meat is mainly supplied by Greendale Farm Butchers. This is a local farm about 5 miles from Budleigh Salterton and we buy their home reared Beef, Pork, Lamb and chickens as well as their free range eggs.
We are happy to provide vintage afternoon tea parties for large groups, and are happy to cater for private functions of parties of 20 or more. Great for celebrations of all kinds including hen parties, birthdays, anniversaries or simply a get together with friends and family. We are also fully licensed.

There is a horribly rude woman that works here. We popped in earlier today and after being left waiting we decided to move some chairs to an empty table by the door. We were about to sit down when she marched over and told us that we were blocking a fire escape. My mother, wanting to express that she didn't feel that we would be blocking anything, was barely given the time to speak before the lady interrupted and barked, "I suppose the chairs walked themselves over here?". In utter shock, we left immediately.
Some tips for the future: Perhaps first consider suggesting to us that we come back a

Pit stop....crab sandwich was awesome. Prawn sandwich superb. Coffee and walnut cake ok, perhaps a little dry if being picky. Great attentive service and not pressurised. Definately recommended.

I would like to rate better as its rather a cute place and the lady who we paid and brought our food was a fantastic service provider polite friendly lovely but our waitress ruined our experience condescending and a little rude .Having seen the reviews before visiting was expecting more .when asking about cream teas I asked if it came with a drink the expression and response she may of well said Duh!!! And another family of 3 came in after us and while taking their order she said you need to hurry up as we stop taking hot food orders in about 3 minutes. I did not feel very welcome having been a

My friend and I were caught in a huge rainstorm and managed to get into Tea and tittle tattle to take cover. It was wonderfully quaint in its decor and had a real traditional English tea shop feel to it.
The cream tea was good quality and very reasonably priced considering its location. The shop was full with people waiting outside to come in which is always a good sign.
The staff were friendly and covid savvy and the only thing I would have changed about them is I would have given them uniforms to wear.
Definitely worth a visit when you are in Budleigh well done

What a fabulous Afternoon Tea we had from Tittle Tattle this afternoon - thank you for a superb birthday tea beautifully presented in take-away boxes with doilies and recyclable wooden cutlery. Beautiful sandwiches 2 savouries 2 scones with clotted cream & jam 1 biscuit 1 meringue 3 cake portions EACH! Everything home-made, fresh and delicious. Thank you for going the extra mile, and all best wishes for a success return to profitable trading as soon as it’s safe.
PS: We’ll return the plastic boxes next time we’re passing.

We often during lockdown, have had coffees and bacon butties on a Sunday - always freshly cooked and lush! Budleigh is a lovely spot to sit and enjoy the coast.
So today we tried the Sunday roast takeaway. Absolutely lovely - really home cooked flavour and warmed through later in the day it was delicious.
Always friendly people and service - worth considering any day outside of lockdown!

Fantastic little place! Amazing cream tea!! My son enjoyed the toast and jam so much we purchased some jam and went to the local baker that they source the bread from to get some to make at home!
Will definitely return when I am in Devon again! Staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming!
