Was founded in 1969 by Dr Elisabeth Svendsen, MBE. She dedicated her life to champion donkeys, and it is through her devotion that the Sanctuary grew to be the international charity it is today. We are open 365 days a year from 9am until dusk. Admission and parking are free. We consider that, being a charity dependent on the support of the public, visitors should be able to see our work free of charge.

We were travelling from Winchester to Newquay one evening and needed somewhere for dinner. I must admit from the web site this wasn't my first choice. However having arrived it appears its just a duff web site. Staff came over as soon as we walked through the door, encouraged us to eat in the dining room rather than the bar very professionally. Knew the menu and couldn't have been more helpful. Food was great, timings were good too, Harri in particular very efficient. All I would say is maybe some better shots on line. Would certainly go out of my way to visit here again
