The Hostelrie At Goodrich
The Hostelrie is an 18th Century pub with rooms located in the tranquil village of Goodrich in the beautiful wye valley, close to Symonds yet, the Forest of Dean & the charming market town of Ross-on-Wye in Herefordshire. This unique turreted building is packed with character, it has been recently refurbished by Daniel & Katherine Balanovsky, who purchased the Hostelrie in early 2021.

The Hostelrie has 8 bedrooms, a traditional pub, a restaurant & a large beer garden perfectly located to explore the fantastic local area & all it has to offer. Traditional yet contemporary pub with log burner & beams, stocked with beers & ales from local suppliers, alongside a well chosen wine list.
Services
With more than ten drinks on tap, you can always find something to quench your thirst, from local ciders & ales to international pilsner & an interesting range of bottled beers, non alcoholic & soft drinks. Landlady Katherine has a passion for wine & has a well chosen wine list with at least 12 wines being available by the glass.
The kitchen at Hostelrie offers several menus, all of which are planned & executed by chef patron Daniel Balanovsky. From breakfast through to the last dessert at dinner the food is made in house, from fresh, to order & represents Daniel's philosophy of using ingredients as local as possible & to showcase simple dishes packed with loads of flavour.

We stayed one night here and loved the architecture of the building, friendly hosts and the quaint village. Our second night was impacted by the power cuts that affected the region after a strong storm. Our hosts handled everything impeccably. Professional response, keeping us updated every step of the way. We definitely want to return to experience the pub and restaurant.

Staying in Goodrich for the new year, we booked the new year's eve dinner. Food was incredible, every single dish was stunning and even changed the set menu for my partner who was Pescetarian. Worth every penny. Great with dogs.

Lovely old building. Really nice bar and restaurant. Food was good but portions small. Room was nice but basic and quite noisy with creaking floorboards and hot water systems. Typical old building noises at night, to be expected I suppose. Enjoyed our stay overall.

A tasty Sunday lunch, although quite basic. My mum has Alzheimer’s disease and has a very small appetite so we ordered her a child’s portion. We were told at the end of the meal that she would be charged the full price. We asked for some extra gravy to be told we would be charged for that too. I found this quite bizarre. Not a friendly experience at all. Everywhere else in and around Ross was fully booked and this was a last option - I now understand why. I think you have to be able to take criticism (if it’s constructive) in the service industry and we did complain about being charge for

Nice setting in pretty village. We sat in the (dog friendly) bar for our meal which was superb. The belly pork I had was sublime, the Mrs. chose a risotto which she also rated highly. Well worth a visit.

At the pricier end of the scale, especially for things like burgers and more of a gastropub restaurant than your standard pub serving food. The quality was pretty good though and it was enjoyable. Service could perhaps have been a little more attentive but no complaints.

We booked for a meal for two and having a dog with us was no problem at all. The food was excellent, the venison steak was fabulous and the staff couldn't do enough for us.
We will be coming back and staying in the rooms also.

Now we only stopped here for a quick drink but it is certainly somewhere we would like to stay. My wife described the building as quaintly Gothic but that may be underselling it a tad. It has a couple of turrets, a spire and gorgeous leaded long windows. Very tastefully decorated inside with all sorts of interesting period newspaper cuttings and artifacts. The hosts were excellent and the recommended beer was spot on. We thoroughly enjoyed it and would liked to have stayed longer.

Really lovely meal here - 10 of us in our party plus a well behaved dog. We ate in the restaurant side and it was delightful. Everything was done properly but without being pretentious. Food was excellent. Service was extremely good - friendly, attentive and helpful. Highly recommend. New owners and they deserve to do well.

My family stayed overnight here and absolutely loved it. The staff were so friendly and accommodating, and you could really tell they have put their heart and soul into making this a success. We loved all the… small touches that made it special, it was a lovely experience. All 3 of us slept so well as the beds were comfortable with good quality pillows and linen. The food was cooked to an excellent standard, with local produce used where possible. My partner and I are planning on coming back in the winter as well ❤️❤️

My first visit to this lovely pub, love the stone walls inside, just beautiful throughout. Lovely friendly barstaff and my burger was absolutely superb too! Didn't manage to sit in the garden despite it being a fabulous evening but peeked through a window and it looked beautiful. Highly recommend a visit 👌
