Services
The Trout Hotel has been at the heart of the pretty gem town of Cockermouth for several centuries. Going back to 1670, the hotel was first built as a private residence for the Egremont Estate. It was known as Sandclose and remained so until it became the Lakes Hotel in 1934.
In the 1960s, as trout and salmon fishing became popular on the River Derwent and River Cocker, the hotel changed its name to the Trout Hotel and over the years, became a favourite retreat of Hollywood legend Bing Crosby, who loved to visit for fishing breaks.

We stayed here for several night with three rooms over the Christmas holidays. The rooms are nice and the beds and linens are very nice. The staff was extremely nice and kind despite working on the holidays. We felt the food at their restaurant was average though so I wouldn’t plan on too many meals there

Had our work christmas dinner here and it was great. The staff were so helpful and friendly, the venue was great - well set up and thought through. The food was amazing and quite reasonable really. Organising, and making last minute changes had been really simple. Definitely would recommend the place for anyone looking to host an event in the area

What's happened to the food in this beautiful place.? Its was really mediocre and not up to the usual standard of the trout. I only wanted a sandwich and asked the waitress what the bread options were to which she replied...white or brown sliced...😳 others in our group mentioned that the quality of their food wasn't up to scratch either. Come on sue...sort your menu and chefs out
