Situated on the old highway from London to Land's End, the pub was originally called 'The Half Moon' but in the 19th century was renamed 'Hawkins Arms' to honour west country Elizabethan seafarer, Sir Richard Hawkins, nephew of Sir Francis Drake and a commander in Drake's fleet fighting against the Spanish Armada.Owners Adam and Alex are justifiably proud of their homely, family-friendly 'Free House' pub, restaurant and guest house.

Services
Our food is prepared and cooked fresh when ordered when ever possible so may take a little longer though we aim to get any meal out within 20 minutes of starting the cooking process. Whether you're looking for real traditional 'pub grub', a real pie, fresh fish, vegetarian, curries, vegan, gluton free we will do our best to accomodate you.
The Hawkins Arms offers a warm welcome to travellers, whether you're just passing through or spending a little longer exploring the area. Room 5 is our family suite sleeping up to 4 people consisting of 2 bedrooms with showers and sink in each and a shared rest room. Both rooms can be made up as singles or double beds.
We have several groups of enthusiasts who meet at the Hawkins Arms on a regular basis. There is a designated 'private area' to use, to swap stories and talk shop with like-minded people, so if you'd like to come to any of their meetings, or even to start one of your own just get in touch and we'll see how we can help.
Hawkins Arms is in a little village called Zelah just off the A30 between the Carland Cross roundabout and Chiverton Cross. Look out for the Zelah road signs and brown 'Hawkins Arms' signs whether you are coming from the north or south on the A30. Go all the way into the village - you can't miss the pub!

Holidaying from London and was recommended this place by a lovely gentleman whilst driving past the town of Rose. He described it as more restaurant than pub quality food. Me & my partner Helen both had lovely meals and she in particular was happy with the vegan choices available. We ate there a few days after August Bank Holiday Monday. This meant it was a little on the quieter side, but we found the staff were polite, interested and attentive all throughout the evening.
Highlights were the triple cooked chips & salted caramel cheesecake 😋. Would visit again.

I called this place to speak to the owner as I had a request before I paid them a visit. A woman answered and was very rude making assumptions of what the call was about. She asked why I wanted to speak to the owner, then before I got the chance to answer she said "is it about gas?" "Electricity?" "You want our credit card detail?" Absolutely shocking making assumptions like that.
