Based in East London's vibrant South Woodford, the Grand Trunk Road restaurant takes inspiration from its namesake. Built for traders in the 16th century, the Grand Trunk Road is Asia's longest road, running through several regions and connecting Bangladesh to Afghanistan. The road acted as a major trade route and is still functional today.
It has welcomed many travellers, as they sought to trade ingredients, spices and recipes, giving it its lively, diverse and colourful reputation. The Grand Trunk Road restaurant offers a huge selection of dishes inspired by the sights, sounds, smells and flavours of this famous route, as well as the vibrant atmosphere and community spirit that would have been felt by all who travelled it.

As a Michelin status restaurant I had high expectations. As soon as we walked in we were greeted and taken to out seats by staff and given menus. Throughout our meal they provided an excellent service.
We ordered lamb chops and popadam mix for starter. The lamb was exceptionally cooked and seasoned, it was the perfect start to our meal.
For mains we ordered lobster and butter chicken with naan and rice. The butter chicken gravy had a very overwhelming cardamom flavor and I could not have more than a few bites, my husband tried to finish it but even he could not manage to do so. Butter chicken

For my anniversary, I chose this place as it had Michelin status along with the fact it was halal and local to me. However, we were quite disappointed with this restaurant overall.
We ordered lamb chops and poppadoms for starters which was a great start to the meal. Probably one of the best lamb chops I've had in a very long time (albeit a bit pricey for 3 pieces).
For main, I ordered the lobster dish which was the tail only (wasn't specified on the menu) and the missus got butter chicken and we got naan and rice as sides.
For drinks, we had the Passion fruit mocktail, but it was your standard

We had a very enjoyable experience at Grand Trunk Road.
Excellent food that was not the "clone" menu of your typical Indian restaurant.
My favourite was the Punjabi Murgh Masala, though it must be noted that the Coastal prawn curry was the best prawn curry I've ever had.
The service was excellent and all the staff were very accommodating.
I would recommend this restaurant unreservedly!

I heard great things about this restaurant and took the family for a Thursday night meal.
The venue is nice and clean and they are clearly trying provide a fine dining experience. Unfortunately the food, in my opinion, is not an authentic representation of the Asian subcontinent.
We started with a popadom basket to keep us busy while the food was being prepared. Nice and fresh popadoms and the accompanying sauces were really nice.
For starters we ordered a chaat and some chapli kebabs.
The chaat was fine, nothing spectacular, just a regular chaat.I thought they would have put their own spin
