I requested the Japanese pancakes and ice cream for dessert, having been tempted by the blurb which said it would be prepared to a new recipe. Sitting beside the restaurant's open-plan kitchen, I then watched the chef tear open a packet of pancakes and scoop out cheap ice cream from a tub. When I queried the disconnect between what was promised and delivered, the waiter confirmed: 'Yeah, it comes out of a packet, to be honest.'

Absolutely love this place. I have been to Sumo Fresh many times and the food is always amazing and tastes fresh. The waiters and waitresses give such great customer service and are really friendly. This place has to be one of the best value for money I’ve eaten at considering the quality of the food and the portion size. Would highly recommend.

This is an amazing spot to grab a meal in Wanstead. The one dinner I had there, we had very friendly service, Maria was a great host.
I almost never write restaurant reviews, but the service she provided was above and beyond excellent .
Looking forward to visit Sumo again.

Fantastic place to have a dinner. If you like sushi, this is the right place. Everything was so tasty. Be careful, the soy sauce is really salty! The service is also great!

Decent quality of Japanese food. Had ell teriyaki donburi. Good for quick lunch. It is not expensive for its portion.

One of the best places to get food from! Food is made fresh and presentation is very very clean. I understand delivery can take some time from looking at other reviews but i'd rather my food fresh than rushed. Overall, I'd recommend everything off the menu haha! Quality food on your doorstep!

Had both types of dishes here. Meals and sushi. I thought the sushi was nice. Good creations well presented with a nice mix of flavours. However the meals were sub par in my opinion. I'd go here again for sushi but not for a dish such as Katsu. The udon noodles were also quite oily. Not good. I'd give them 3.5 but rounded up to 4 because the staff were nice.
Went again, got a katsina chicken. Curry was major salty. Down to 3 stars.

Dreadful service and food of a very low standard ... would not return ! Went for sushi and they forgot to make ! Had starters ( was ok - nothing special though ) and a FOUL beef dish that tasted like it had… been soaked in oil for days ! Then received the bill with the sushi still on there after we had cancelled due to chef forgetting to make sushi in a sushi restaurant! Blamed it on the fact they were busy! Very, very disappointing to say the least and not at all as expected . If you want sushi - do NOT go here !

Looking up reviews my wife and i decided to got for lunch on sunday. It was worth visiting indeed. Choice of sushi was massive we tried few of them and all were fresh and delicious. Attentive and quick service. Also great coctails. Defo coming back.

The environment is friendly and welcoming, however the phone does go off which is a minor inconvenience at best.
The decor makes you feel as if you are in a gastronomic trendy restaurant, as per the exposed brick, dark furniture and bright yellow bulbs. Additionally The real selling point is the sushi wheel inside.
The menu is limited although this is more to the restaurant size however the refined menu does make way for excellent quality.
Just be ready to pay sushi prices is all I'm going to say on that point
