Pupil voice and involvement is important. We have many different groups and councils that the children can be involved in. To help with understanding the British value of demoncracy, these are normally voted for by the children. In the past we have had a head boy and a head girl. This year the children choose two girls for the roles and we have given them a new title of Head Prefect.
We are the second St Aidan's school - the first one was built in Longhill (near where Tesco is now) and had a history of its own. 100 of the old boys from that school were killed in the Great War, as was one former teacher, and we were built as a permanent memorial to them.
If you are interested in more details about this, then there is an excellent book available in Hartlepool art gallery written by a former teacher (Alan Bell) that details this superbly. But the story continues. We would love to fill these pages with pictures and memories from staff, parents and children from any point in the last ninety years.

Although our current building dates from the 1920's, the history of the school dates back much further. In the 1870's Thomas Richardson purchased the blast furnaces and iron mills in the area just south of Stranton. He built houses for the workers in Longhill. The three main streets built at the time were Florence Street, Hill Street and Portland Street.
At St Aidan's our curriculum intent is such that our curriculum extends opportunity, raises aspirations, opens children's eyes to their locality and the wider world, inspires them to want to learn more and enables them to live happy, healthy and productive lives.
Through the fundamental British Values and our Core Christian Values of Love, Compassion, Trust and Togetherness, we promote positive attitudes to learning which reflect the values and skills needed to promote responsibility for learning and future success. Our curriculum is carefully planned through a themed approach, ensuring it is relevant, exciting, purposeful and holistic; embedded across all subject areas.

Early Years is often a child's first venture alone into the larger world outside the family home. What children experience and learn in Nursery and Reception can create strong and lasting foundations on which to build in later life, so we believe it is essential that the experiences in the Early Years are of the highest quality.
